1080P lagging and sound out of sync! (2 Viewers)

I have some issues when I play 1080P mkv files, that they lag on my mediecenter.
And also the sound is completely out of sync!
Unfortunately this is my best computer in the house, so of course these will lag on other systems as well?.

It is an 2500Mhz X2 AMD with 2GB of RAM, and I am using the onboard GFX card. (ATI Radeon Xpress 1250)
I use the ffdshow filter in mediaportal, and it lags here as well, as when I juse VLC.

How could I solve this?

I have tried to change the 264 codec to MPC in MP, but the problem is exactly the same. :(

    Re: 1080P lagging

    need a bit more info

    the mkv's contain h264 or x264 i presume...

what codecs for video/audio are u using for my videos?

personally i prefer using CoreAVC 2.0 for video and MP's own built in MPC - MPA audio decoder

also check to see your screens refresh rate - here in australia we use 50Hz for TV broadcasts and bluray is 23.976

in MP's config (the separate app) u can switch on Automatic refresh rate changer to make the pc output at the correct framerate for the whatever media file u r trying to play

Video is originally ffdshow, but I tried to change it to MPC which is exactly the same problem!
Audio is ffdshow, and it is required, since it is the only way I can get sound through to my amplifier correctly.(I need to have an output stream of PCM, and then the FFDshow is configured for AC3 and DTS).

I have just tried to enable "Enable Dynamic Refresh Control", but the problem is exactly the same.(I have not enabled any of sub functions when I enabled this).

try ffdshow tryouts (google it) and get the latest one - it appears in MP as ffdshow DxVA video decoder (not regular ffdshow for h264/x264)

im guessing its a video decoder issue?

if u can get it...i recommend CoreAVC 2.0...its simply the best codec ive ever seen for video

I will try these and see if they are better.

I do not know if it is a codec issue or not, this is why I am asking here. I think the HTPC should be powerfull enough?

I would say that it is simply a performance issue. ATI 1250 doesn't have any hardware decoding capabilities for those videos and when VLC which is not even using directshow has the same issue it is really likely that it is just a pure performance issue.

I have a bit less powerful X2 AMD on my dev PC and it has exactly the same issue if I try to decode on software the 1080p videos.

    Thanks for the reply.
I am afraid of this, so hopefully not. It seems to be that it should be able to run 1080p videos though.
Same CPU, same Mobo as me.
    Asus M2A-VM Motherboard-opinions?

I have tried the ffdshow tryout instead, and it shows up and it still shows up as "ffdshow decoder", and not "ffdshow DxVA video decoder" as you have described.

I have not tested it yet to see if it is better. I will test later.

It seems to be that the newer ffdshow codec sorted out the lagging. I have not had issues with it since, but it seems to be that the audio is sometimes not in 100% sync.

I have uninstalled all codecs I had installed, and installed SAF 4.0. The video still runs completely smooth, but unfortunately, the audio is not in sync for some strange reason. :(

Most likely a performance issue, if 720p or SD works then it is definitely a perofmrance issue.
