Ok, so I'm looking to rebuild my PVR server, and I've used Beyond TV in the past, and currently have a SageTV server and just found out they sold out to Google. So I'm looking for a new media server software. So I have 2 quick questions.

First: I have some TV Shows I've recorded that I keep for my son. Can these be imported as TV Shows? or would they be imported as a movie?

Second: My tuners are all analog, and I have no intentions on getting Digital tuners and antennas.... Is there a way to setup the software to not have the tv stuff? Just movies, music, pictures, etc? I mean I could just ignore that it's there (unless I can import those old shows into the tv area, then I'd keep it), but if I can't import old shows, and don't have any live input, it seems silly to have it.

Thanks!

MediaPortal has a plugin called My TVSeries that should work for you tv shows: My TVSeries - MediaPortal Forum

MediaPortal will work with analog tuners, I use analog tuners and Digital tuners on the cable system i'm on, but if you like you can setup MediaPortal without TV.

Gee, you're just find out now that SageTV was bought by Google? ;-)

I only use analog tuners too. I use two PVR-150 Hauupage cards and an MCE IR Transceiver. Works fine.

When you install MediaPortal, it will ask you if you plan to watch Live TV with it. If you say Yes, it will install the TV part of the software in addition to the rest.

I think SageTV saved my analog TV shows as avi files. You can copy them into a directory and "MP TV Series" might be able to catalog them for you. Just make sure you name them properly and place them in a logical directory structure.

    I use:

    \TV_Shows\Show Name\Season x\Show Name - S01E01 - Title.avi

but there are many variations that will still be understandable by MP TV Series. You'll have your commercials mind you...

I would suggest you keep all your TV shows in one folder, and all your Movies in another folder.

MediaPortal doesn't really care if they are a TV show or Movie. It's how you organize your folders and then what folders you feed to either the Movie or TV software that separates the two.

On your main "server" you will do a 'normal' install. If you have PC Clients, when you run the install, choose advanced installation and tell it you're installing a client.

You may find this walk through very helpful too:

    MediaPortal Setup Guide

It's what I used to get my first system up and running and saved me a great deal of time.

As an ex-SageTV user myself... welcome to MediaPorta! :)
