Please understand that i have less knowledge about graphs, filters, streams etc... so this might be a stupid question.

i understand from reading the forum that 2 recordings with one card are impossible (thats clear to me, i'm not that stupid *g*) even when the 2 channels are on the same transponder (i can live with that, just have to buy a second tv card *g*).

    my problem is something else:

when 1 movie is following right after the other, i really run into some problems in the past because one of th files includes the beginning or the end of the other. this is okay, i can cut them etc but it's still annoying. So i questioned myself if it isn't possible if Movie 1 is recorderd normally but the recordings of movie 2 begans before number one ended. it's still the same channel and the same graph right?. so for the time of ~10 minutes (depending on the pre/post recording setting) it would record to 2 differnet files at the same time from the same channel..

    ... possible??

I have also been thinking about this.. and posted some thoughts on it. They only thing I could come up with is that MP records both shows as one. It would also keep your pre and post buffer. So lets say you have your buffer set at 2 min. If you had 2 shows lined up on the same channel it would record from 10:58 to 12:02. MP would then go to that show and make 2 cuts from the original recording automatically. It would first cut out 10:58 to 11:32 and name the show what it originally was. It would then go into the original recording and cut out 11:28 to 12:02 and name that show. It would then delete the original recording.

I think this option is very possible... but the time and effort it would take to do this is probably not worth it. It would be easier to purchase a Dual tuner or another single card.

Currently not, the used Microsoft Stream Buffer Engine does not offer that option.

See, this really confuses me because MP used to work this way. There has been a few discussions on the subject and other members also remember it working that way, so I am not going crazy (which is what I first thought). I know this wasn't just during the .TS experimental stage either.

Interesting. Please install that old version and doublecheck if that really worked. If so, it "could" be faced after 0.2.

I vaguely remember that too, though I might be wrong. I went to dual tuners just before 0200 so I never noticed it again after that.

I'll be overseas for the next couple of weeks. When I get home I'll try and find the version that worked that way.

I think this is still very important for many users (including me). And we have the new TV engine now, no DVR-MS restrictions any more. So what about this feature (recording one program into two different files at the same time for solving the "overlapping" problem)? That would be really great... :)

I think the new tv engine should be able to do this, if not now, but soon.
If you can have two different clients watching the same channel surely you can record the same channel to two different locations?
I don't use the TV server yet, so don't know for sure, but this was my understanding.

Well, the engine should be able to do this, but of course it has to be implemented. :) This is a very important feature in my opinion. Right now even my old VHS recorder is better at recording two shows in a row...
