There are a few AVI/WMV files that will not output to my Sony receiver in 5.1 or more, channels. I only get 2.0.
If I use Media Player Classic, or Windows Media Player, those same files play in 5.1 successfully, but just not in mediaportal. I am using FFdshow for all video playback (successfully) and AC3 filter for audio. I have it going direct out the Realtech Digital Coax connection using Spdif out. Now, alot of files I have are playing successfully in Mediaportal, and all other players, whether it be DTS, Dolby Digital, or just plain 2.1. I have a neat feature on my Sony receiver remote called "AFD", which allows me to, I guess, "simulate" DTS, Prologic, or Dolby Digital, so I figured I could get away with using this for the odd files that Mediaportal is having problems with. But for some reason, I can't even use this feature when I am in this 2.0 state that mediaportal is forcing me into. Again, only a handful of AVIs, or WMVs do this, and its only in Mediaportal that I only get 2.0 audio, and no function of my AFD magic button on my receiver. Other players are cool with the audio. I apologize if I seem a little wet behind the ears, but, I am. I am anxious to learn, and will be pleased for any help I can get out there. This is the only thing stopping me from a PERFECT setup! Thank you all for your time in advance.
