There are a few AVI/WMV files that will not output to my Sony receiver in 5.1 or more, channels. I only get 2.0.
If I use Media Player Classic, or Windows Media Player, those same files play in 5.1 successfully, but just not in mediaportal. I am using FFdshow for all video playback (successfully) and AC3 filter for audio. I have it going direct out the Realtech Digital Coax connection using Spdif out. Now, alot of files I have are playing successfully in Mediaportal, and all other players, whether it be DTS, Dolby Digital, or just plain 2.1. I have a neat feature on my Sony receiver remote called "AFD", which allows me to, I guess, "simulate" DTS, Prologic, or Dolby Digital, so I figured I could get away with using this for the odd files that Mediaportal is having problems with. But for some reason, I can't even use this feature when I am in this 2.0 state that mediaportal is forcing me into. Again, only a handful of AVIs, or WMVs do this, and its only in Mediaportal that I only get 2.0 audio, and no function of my AFD magic button on my receiver. Other players are cool with the audio. I apologize if I seem a little wet behind the ears, but, I am. I am anxious to learn, and will be pleased for any help I can get out there. This is the only thing stopping me from a PERFECT setup! Thank you all for your time in advance.

First thing, check not only in windows sound properties, but any program that may be installed by the soundcard driver.

After that post log's, using MPTESTool2 found under programs\mediaportal, then use the advanced features to upload.

    Thanks

I have a the same problem with TV/Recodrings, Im using a Foxconn K8M890 MB with Onboard Sound. My Reciver Says its receving DDigital but there is only stero sound. To further talk about my problem after watching live TV (Time Shif is fine) for about 40sec-5min the audio will degrade until there is no sound at all. But it does this with the software that came with my TV Card (DTV1000S and DTV1000T)

Could this be a Vista issue? Isn't the Home Premium the version that's like MCE and I recall you have to disable some stuff in MCE to allow MP to function... or am I all wet? Being an XP/Home user I only half-listen when I read about Vista and MCE problems/setup.

So you either have a soundcard driver problem (check you have latest) or TVCard driver\cable problem.

How is the sound sent from TVcard through to your soundcard, via pci\pcie bus or cable between them.
