Last resort couldn't figure this out on my own or with the Sound Card technical support so I am hopping that this great community can help me out. I'm ready to accept the fact that if my sound card needs to be changed I will certainly change it.

I recently built this new HTPC and after getting everything configured and running smooth, I have this small little nagging issue. I have an optical cable going out from my sound card to my Onkyo 7.1 DTS reciever. It recognizes the DTS signal, but when playing HD files or any other files all I get is 5.1 sound. Please forgive me I am a huge noobie when it comes to configuring audio I have a moderate understanding but I don't have what it takes to get it configured how I needed it to be.

I don't know what info you need but I'll be happy to answer whatever questions you have.

Thanks for your help!

Almost everything at this point is only in 5.1 surround. The only media that actually has real 7.1 sound is blueray or hd-dvd with a truehd or dts-hd track. So basically my point is your system is probably playing like it should. Trying to force 7.1 output would only add 2 "fake" channels made from mixing the sound of other channels.
