Hi all,

After using a few PVR boxes with various features I have not found one that has everything I want. But MP does!

Now I havent got much in the way of spare cash so I would like to get it right first time.

Currectly I have a fairly good PC which I'm currently using with MP as a movie jukebox but I would like to extend it to do all my TV viewing / recording. The PC is attached to my TV with SVHS from my geforce card. The TV is just a standard Telly ( Not HD ready )

My questions are:

I'm thinking of getting the FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual 2 card as I want the ability to watch and record at once. I'm not bothered with analogue, its being turned off here in the UK in 2009 anyway.

Will this card work with my non-HD TV still? I assume the gfx card will just "downgrade it for me"?

Also, The motherboard is an AGP / PCI with USB1.. Will this be ok with the Dual TV Card as I've heard some cards need USB2.

I want to use the TV card's EPG to schedule recordings. Will this work out of the box with MP? I hate fiddling around with config files etc. Here in the UK digital dvb-t (Freeview) does come with 7 day EPG.

Thats all I can think of to ask right now. Any help will be highly appreciated.

:D

If the card is a pci card it won't need usb. If it is a usb device I honetly can't help, but i assume usb 1.1 would be to slow for tv viewing. I would steer clear if these devices as i have only ever heard bad things of usb tuners, But like i say ive never tried them.

The HD is not implemented in all regions in the uk however a decent freeview/digital signal will give impressive results, and won't effect your viewing regardless of the type of video card or tv

As for the epg i would recommend using the web epg its silmple to set up and gives me a full 12 - 14 days of guide.

I can recommend the pinnacle pro dual tv card as i have the single version and it gives excellent results and can be picked up brand new from a popular auction site for as little as £50 - £60.

I can't remember if you asked anything else. I hope that was it.

the fusion cards have a strange setup

1st tuner is on the PCI card and runs from PCI bus
2nd tuner is a USB tuner on the PCI card and needs to be connected to a USB internal connection

UK DVB-T has an "over the air EPG so there is no need to use a 3rd party grabber.

Thank for the replies guys,

dubstar:
I have just looked at the pinnacle pro dual tv card and it looks like a better option for me as the computer shop down the road has it in stock for £63 :)

Is the UK epg working in the non-tv server Media Portal?? Also does it grab 14 days??

BJF if you get that card i hope it is as good for you as it single card has been for me. You will have to let me know.

All the best.

Well i installed the tv server again last night and i didn't give it much chance to grab the epg so i might dissable the xmltv and give it ago, i have a humax box that gets a really good epg so i know my area is good for it.
