Hi all

I am looking to build a HTPC setup and, typically, I am not certain about cards.

I live in Germany and will be fitting a dual or quad LNB to the dish when I get it.

Initially I would be looking at FreesatHD with the possibility of moving to Sky HD if I can find a method of subscribing over here that doesn't have an extortionate middle-man annual fee.

Looking on here, I have seen a few recommending the TBS 6981 dual satellite card. Would this be a good choice to connect to FreesatHD and be able to record one channel/watch another?

If I were to then sort out Sky HD...would this card still be enough, or would I need another card to control the box?

I don't need to control any motors as the dish will only be pointing to English satellites. I was also thinking of an extra card to be able to potentially connect to the wall socket in my apartment...for German TV.

Many thanks in advance for any advice

    Hi PureLoneWolf

I think the TBS 6981 would be an excellent choice for satellite TV. It would indeed enable you to watch/record at least two channels simultaneously. No comment about Sky HD - I think you'd be getting into territory that we don't talk about on this forum (please ask about that elsewhere).

Regarding the German TV: I think you'd need a DVB-C or DVB-T tuner there. Plenty of tuners are available, however I guess the question would be whether you only want free channels or you intend to subscribe to a pay TV provider and decrypt the channels somehow.

Apologies, I didn't realise. I just thought it would be nice to have every device controlled through the HTPC (including the Sky Box)..not to circumnavigate any security etc.

    Thanks
