I am unsure what have downloaded but I think it may be the CVS version. CVS is the current "work in progress at the minute" so you'd need to get a 'released' version installed first.
These are available on the the upper right of the Mediaportal homepage:
ie. https://www.team-mediaportal.com/
Install either "Release 0.1.3.0 or "Test Release 0.2 RC2" first. These have a setup.exe in them!
Try either of these first and if all is good (runs well, etc), then you can try a CVS version.
Note: You will need "Test Release 0.2 RC2" to try the CVS version. You simply extract the CVS version over the top of your "Test Release 0.2 RC2" install. Make sure you back up your working install as the CVS may not work for you. It doesn't for me but that's OK as I (read: my wife) wants stablility over "bleeding edge" technology.
Hmm, seems to me that there is something very non-standard about your win 7 setup on top of the fact that MS no longer support Win 7 and very little testing has been done in conjunction with it and the latest versions of Media Portal, basically because hardly anyone is using that version of the OS any longer. By all means continue...

Is this solved? I've had the same, or maybe just similar, issue for a while now, and I've narrowed it down to Onlinevideos getting MediaPortal stuck on the plugin loading stage of startup. Installing the former stable version now, and MediaPortal seems to start without issues.
This usually happens when I start windows and...

Ok, so perhaps a solution, but not the "right" solution. On the client, within media portal configuration, under TV settings, advanced options, I switched to UNC paths instead of the default RSS, and it's working very well. Sure I had to figure out the paths, but no big deal.
Maybe helpful for someone in the future. Thanks for the...
