Been searching for posts adressing this issue, but haven't been able to find any, so, here goes:

Wouldn't it be possible to have the ability just to instruct MP to use another muxer instead of Microsofts, such as Cyberlink or Intervideo? That way it would be possible to record directly to MPEG, and from what I've seen in other applications, also speed up the system a bit... I've seen this successfully implemented in other applications such as GB-PVR. Maybe worth checking out?

Also, it would be nice if the timeshift buffer directory could be selected in MP setup. (or is that already possible and I've just overlooked it?)

Oh, and after trying out six different HTPC applications I've decided to stick with MP! By far the most versatile and best looking app out there! Still some stability issues though - MP hangs a lot and I keep getting failed recordings - probably something in my configuration... But still a great app, so I'll keep trying!

The timeshift buffer directory is the same one you select for your TV Recordings - and you can set this folder in the TV Card setup part of MP Configuration, under "recordings", I think.

I don't know about setting MP to use a different demuxer but this was said way back in OCT 26th on the front page.

"Agree is working on a new MediaPortal Transport Stream (TS) filter. This filter has its own video & audio output pins and an internal TS demuxer so we dont have to use the Microsoft demuxer anymore. Reason: The Microsoft demuxer has limitations which show itself in the fact that after seeking it can take a long time before video appears."

I am hoping after the dev's release 2.0 final they will really start to work on this one. Comskip works better with a .ts file :)

Yes, while it is true that this is a limitation, there is always a way to get around limitations. Have you tried playing a .ts file with MP, The Microsoft demuxer is used for playback.
