Back from university, I am finding myself fustrated by the fact that my family hates to watch adverts. Instead, they flick around, find something else, get interested, and I miss chunks of what I want to watch because you can never tell exactly when the adverts end.

There is a plugin that can detect adverts based on volume increase etc. I was just wondering, would it be possible to make an application that allows you to flick around and then alert or auto flick back when the ad's are over?

I think this could be a pretty cool feature for the family where no-body wants to wait for adverts

Comskip already does this for recorded content, so it is certainly doable. the immediate requirement I see that may stop people from using it is that you will require at least a dual tuner setup - one to watch and "flick" around with, while the other is used to monitor the channel you want to watch until the commercials are over.

Yeh, I figured that could be a problem. Although, with DVB-T, you can tune to channels on the same frequency (or similar) so you can flick, but to only a limited number of channels, that could be an option to have for people with only 1 tuner.

With people using their sky boxes, I suppose the only way around this is to have a dvb-s card maybe? (is it possible to use a dvb-s with sky to have a new sky box?)... to clarify, i am not suggesting something illegal... I was wondering if there was a dvb-s tuner that can take a sky card to decrypt the channels
