Hi,

I apologise from the start if this has been discussed somewhere else, however, I can't find anything about my config problem anywhere.

I am trying to do the standard MP with Foxtel and am unable to get the MP to see my analog input on my Dvico Dual Digital. I have connected the video to the composite input on the card. I think that I have configured it properly but I'm getting "invalid tuning details" when assigning CVBS#1 (I have also tried, CVBS#2, SVHS and RGB) to any of the Foxtel channels. A cutting from my MP log:

14/05/2006 10:03:16 AM DVBGraphBDA:got 2 tuner statistics

14/05/2006 10:03:16 AM Recorder: Card:Dvico FusionHDTV Dual 2 idle

I was also getting a timeshifting error as well, however, I've turned off timeshifting for the moment so that I don't confuse things with multiple errors (I mentioned it in case it may help in the resolution).

I love MP and plan to set up another box as a media client for my living room to hook back into my main MP server.

Has anyone set up a Dvico / Foxtel installation before? Anyone able to help?

Have you set it up like a software card needs? Ie software encoder installed and such? Also has is it supported for that card (do you get a software card option in the configuration screen)?

Thanks for the quick reply Callifo. If I try to answer your questions:

No, I haven't set it up as a software card. I'm not really sure how you go about doing that. I am able to get the FTA digital signal with no issues. When I use the FusionHDTV player that came with the card, I can get the Foxtel signal but not in MP.

I have installed ffdshow but I don't appear to get the option for a software card (where do I look for that?) in the MP configuration utility.

Where would I set up the tuning information that MP is asking for?

The analogue and digital parts of that card are seperate so they should appear as 2 seperate cards in setup (or 3 in your case as it has 2x dvb-t). Im think that if that 3rd card doesnt appear (not sure what it would be called) then most likely no one yet has added support for that particular model.

If that is the case then you need to do this https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=12846

That includes having to get a software mpeg2 encoder from somewhere.

Hey Callifo,

I went looking at the CaptureCardsDefinition.xml and found definitions for both digital tuners of my card. There was nothing that appeared to be for analog input. The dual digital appears on the list of supported cards in the link that you gave me.

I saw this post where Taipan has said that the analog port should work:

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=7591

I'll persevere and post any success.

Nooooooooo

I decided to live on the edge and downloaded the latest build. Now my digital stream is gone....

Oh well, reinstall time. :(

Hi Mulva,
I am building my own htpc too and since little tunings can break the system, to save reinstalling, I find investing in an imaging software like Acronis or Ghost well worth it. Simply restore the snapshot or image and the system is back. You can switch to different images to experiment. Hope this tip saves you time and effort.

Yes, I too use ghost. However, all I had to do was uninstall MP and reinstall. It is far less time consuming than restoring a ghost image.

Thanks.

I wouldn't take too much notice of what Taipan said in that post - it was an old post before support for software encoding cards was removed from MediaPortal. I don't think that the analog input will work now - but I have no personal experience with analog inputs, so please take my comments "with a grain of salt"..... :wink:

By all means, give it a try, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. But, it may be possible to make it work - refer to the section on getting software encoding cards to work with MediaPortal...

Okay. It's taken me a few weeks on this (really only 3 days due to the WFT - wife free time) and before I go down the path that Califo suggested, I thought that I would teach myself how this all works so that I can be my own support as well as fix my problem at the same time.

To recap, I have a Dvico dual digital card that is working incredibly well within MP. I am able to get both cards working and am really happy with the quality of the signal and the functionality within MP. I use Dugg and am surprised how easy EPG can be. I have a MCE remote and the integration within MP is fantastic.

My requirement: I have cable television and want to capture the stream into MP via the composite or SVHS input using my MCE remote's IR blaster to change channels. I know that MP is capable of doing this.

My problem: I cannot get the video stream in from the composite in on the card.

Where I am: I originally tried to do this with 0.2 RC4 but many of the forum threads have stated that software card support has been removed from the latest version. I was encouraged by someone on a similar quest with the same card who reverted to 0.1.3 with success so I have gone down this path.

I have used graphedit to try to piece together the puzzle of the capturecarddefinitions.xml file and have been quite successful. I have created a configuration that I believe is correct. MP Setup will add the card without complaints. I even check the configuration of the crossbar of the card and can see that a signal is being received. Woohoo! I've installed InterVideo DVR3 and played around with selecting the InterVideo Video Encoder. Although it works in graphedit, MP wasn't very happy with it. I will try again as I only superficially worked with this encoder and I may have done something stupid.

My definition:

Code:
<capturecard commercialname="Dvico FusionHDTV Dual (Analog)" capturename="FusionHDTV, WDM Video Capture" devid="ven_14f1&dev_8800&subsys_db5018ac&rev_05">
<capabilities tv="true" radio="false" mpeg2="true" mce="true" sw="false" bda="false"></capabilities>
<tv>
<interface cat="encoder" video="" audio="" mpeg2="0"></interface>
<filters>
<filter cat="tvtuner"  		name="FusionHDTV, NTSC/ATSC WDM TvTuner"  checkdevice="true"></filter>
<filter cat="tvaudio"  		name="FusionHDTV, TvAudio"                checkdevice="true"></filter>
<filter cat="crossbar" 		name="FusionHDTV, Crossbar"               checkdevice="true"></filter>
<filter cat="capture"  		name="FusionHDTV, WDM Video Capture"      checkdevice="true"></filter>
<filter cat="encoder"        name="Dvico MPEG-2 Video Encoder 0009"    checkdevice="true"></filter>
</filters>
<connections>
<connection sourcefilter="tvtuner"  	sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="tvaudio"  	sinkpin="0"></connection>
<connection sourcefilter="tvtuner"  	sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="crossbar" 	sinkpin="1"></connection>
<connection sourcefilter="tvaudio"  	sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="crossbar" 	sinkpin="4"></connection>
<connection sourcefilter="crossbar" 	sourcepin="0" sinkfilter="capture"  	sinkpin="0"></connection>
<connection sourcefilter="capture"     sourcepin="1" sinkfilter="encoder"     sinkpin="0"></connection>
</connections>
</tv>
</capturecard>

I have tried several iterations of the above without any success. Everything looks sweet in setup, but when I look at the log file, I see this (snippet):

The first thing that I see is the HW MPEG2 encoder:True. Unless I misunderstand what I'm reading here, the composite input (or the WDM Video Capture) is a software device. Secondly and more importantly, the FAILED to connect Encoder->mpeg2 demuxer message. I have attempted to use graphedit to connect the encoder to a demuxer (any of the ones that I could find) without success.

My questions:
Does MP 0.2 RC4 support the Dvico FusionHDTV composite in or should I stay on 0.1.3?
Can anyone see anything obviously wrong with my card definition or have any suggestions for improvement?
Does MP see this device as a hardware encoding device and should I make changes to the definition file?
Should I just give up, get the info that Califo has suggested and send it off (basically, am I just spinning my wheels)?
