Hi all,

I'm using mediaportal 1.2 and have problems with analog TV reception/streaming. The setup I use is an asrock 330. MP TV-server and MP client are installed on the same device. When I setup MP my USB TV (pinnacle pctv 340e) is recognised and when I scan for channels everything works fine. After setting up the TV-server and MP config I try to watch tv, it works but after some time (1 minute, 40 seconds, 1 hour ... when it rains, the sun shines ...) reception freezes. MP still works, so there(s no problem with the application only the streaming from the TV-server to the TV-client seem to have crashed (although tvservice is still running). Most of the time it helps rebooting the computer but not restarting MP or restarting the TVservice, when just restarting without rebooting, MP shows noaudiovideodetected. I suppose this is not due to a problem with MPeg encoding/decoding or problems with codecs but because the -streamed-buffer file .ts is not created??? I was wondering why I had to reboot the computer and could not just do a service restart, I realised launching the TVservice again created a second tvservice.exe-process in my taskmanager, trying to delete the "crashed" is not possible "access denied". I suppose this could be the problem why me and a lot of other users get this noaudiovideo error. Problem is why? Is it some buffer-overflow, a network-problem? I hope somebody does because I really want this thing getting to work.
Also something different, when my TV-USB is detected it shows (device X, class X) this X is an assigned number and sometimes changes, when this happens, the TV-server thinks the USB-card is gone and I even cannot scan for channels anymore, deleting the cards and restarting the TV-server config shows the card again (with the new X-values) and I can scan for channels again. A bug or is this common behavior to USB devices?

Regards,
boein

    Hi there

Obviously everyone is really busy or can't help ;)
I will take a look at the logs this evening (in 3 hours) when I get home from work and get back to you.

    Hi again

I have had a good look at your logs. I see that you tuned 2 times to a channel called "vtm". The first time is successful but the second time is not.

After setting up the TV-server and MP config I try to watch tv, it works but after some time (1 minute, 40 seconds, 1 hour ... when it rains, the sun shines ...) reception freezes. MP still works, so there(s no problem with the application only the streaming from the TV-server to the TV-client seem to have crashed (although tvservice is still running)

Did the reception freeze while you were making the logs? I can't see any freeze problem in the logs. Having said that, I understand what you are saying. It sounds like one or both of the encoders are failing. You could try using different software encoders. You can change the priority of the encoders on the "software encoders" tab in the "general" section of the TV server configuration. If you only have the Intervideo encoders then read this thread.

I think I can help you with this one :)
    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Expand the "TV Servers" section.
    3. Select your TV Server.
    4. Select your analog tuner.
    5. Click edit.
    6. Change the setting "when card enters idle state do the following" from "pause card" to "stop card".
    7. Click "save".
    8. Restart TV Server.

The problem should be fixed (although you may need to reboot to reset the tuner driver like before).

My guess is that this is common for USB devices. I'm pretty sure this would happen if you change which port the tuner is plugged into. It might also happen if you plug in other USB devices or replug the tuner. I don't have any experience with USB tuners so I can't help any more with this issue...
