Hi all. I have bounced from Mediaportal to GBPVR and even tried MyTheatre.
I would prefer to use mediaportal even though it lacks a DVD ripping capabilities(there is a plugin but I havent managed to get it to work) as it has a great interface and a good look. It is also very configurable, however I have as yet not managed to get a decent image.

I am connecting to my Widescreen LCD with an HDMI cable. I have always had weird flickerings on the screen no matter what codecs etc I use.

I have played with virtually all combinations of decoders and renderers etc and still had no luck.

The reason for my title is that I recently installed MyTheatre just to have a look and the video and live tv were perfect. It appears from the configuration pages that it was using cyberlink decoder and VR7 and intervideo Noncss audio so I put that exact combination into Mediaportal and still got no change at all.

I have tried them all, FFDshow post processing, followed numerous guides etc and even though I am dissapointed at the huge lag when changing channels which is a known bug, I would still prefer to use Mediaportal.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me get a better live tv image.

Before anyone suggest I change to the catalyst 7.2 driver, I have done that before with no success. The ati drivers are also a mongrel to uninstall.

Any suggestions or is there and logs or anything I can post so someone can have a look and maybe spot something out of the ordinary?

Mostly the issue seems to be flickering and stuttering of the image.

Thanks

Could you check how much RAM the onboard video adapter has been assigned? You could try to increase the amount.

Might be worthwhile setting up a simple vga connection (has been known to produce much better picture), could be a HDMI cable problem, or just a mismatch on card output and tv input hertz wise.

Notice you have not given TV name\model, as some makes do not like pc output at all over hdmi.

    Hi
Sorry about the lack of info. It is a Philip 32PF7320. According to ATI it can suppoort up to 85 HRZ and a resolution of 1920x1080. I have it currently set at 60hz and 1280x1024.

The only way I can see to set up a simple vga connection would be to use the vga to reg green blue adapter that came with the board and buy a set of component cables. I will see if I can lay my hands on some and try it out.

I checked the ram and I thought it was supposed to be 256 mb ram but it allowed me to select 1024 mb. Can this video card and motherboard share that much ram for the video memory?

Seems unlikely, however I changed it anyway and it hasn't made a difference. I still get a flickering band through the middle and sometimes the top of the screen.

I thought perhaps it might be ground hum or something but why wouldn't I get it using Mytheatre? So it cant be that. It also couldnt be the hdmi cable if I get perfect video images using MyTheatre.
Since posting this I have updated the quartz.dll file to the directx 9b one and disabled animations as per various other posts, which hasnt helped either.

in Setup / DirectShow Filter Control / Enhanced video renderer setting

dont forget to install .NET Framework 3.0

1st - Make sure that the broadcasted fps is a multiple of the screen refresh rate. I.e. for PAL broadcasts the refresh rate should be 50/75/100hz.

2nd - Check that "Use VMR9 exclusive mode" is selected under configure -> directshow filter control -> Video MiXing Renderer 9...
