Assigning languages to series? (1 Viewer)

Heya,

I really love this plugin and have only a single complaint: why is it not possible to assign different languages to different tv programmes? I'm German but most of my series are English - so obviously, I don't have a problem with English content. However, I also record a few series on German TV where I would prefer German descriptions.

Here's my MO so far: Generally, I download the English descriptions. For Das Boot and Tatort, I add seperate import paths and set the preferred language to German, import everything, switch back to English again and import a second time. Why import twice? Because the plugin automatically downloads German descriptions and titles for all series in the database, it even changes their names to their German equivalents which I don't want it to do.

Now this works alright with programmes that only exist in German and not in English. One of the downsides of this method is that the show info is being deleted after the second (English) import run (the episode and season info is left intact though).

However, this does not work for a show like Columbo or Law & Order: Criminal Intent as these also have English entries - which makes in impossible to assign German descriptions to these programmes.

Are there any plans to add this functionality, much like it has been done with MovingPictures? I reckon I'm not the only one hoping for this.

You shouldn't add your series twice, you can't set a language per import path.

If you set your language to German, it will download your series info in German if it exists otherwise it will fall back to English. If the information was retrieved in english and then you update the info online to be German, the next update scan will update your data to reflect this.

the question was whether it would be possible to add this feature in future versions as the current state is a little unsatisfying for those among us who watch series in more than just one language and want the language of the downloadable info to reflect this - hence allowing us to have series one with German texts and titles and series two with English data. would this be possible?

I think it might be a bit of work involved to store multiple languages for each series and then switch between languages in the GUI. You could add an enhancement on the Issue Tracker and we can see investigate what is needed.

yeah thats really bad especially if you have people at home that don't like to watch series in english and they can't see wheather it's german or english.

My series are seperated in 2 import folders (\series\german and series\english ) and it would be really great if i could tell the plugin

so what i would suggest : instead of the general language setting it would be nice to have a setting for each import path.

i do not need both english and german descriptions at the same time - but this way it would be very easy to see which language the series has.
German description = german series
englisch description = english

You can use logos. Example: if the path contains "german" then show germany_flag.jpg, if the path contains "english" then show english_flag.jpg

z3us: Could you please point me in the right direction of how to use logo to flag my episodes? Thanks.

edit: i have to add an important thing: Right now, all my episodes have a german language ID although there are english and german clips. So it would be nice to some kind of language detection or the opportunity to flag more than one episode per click as english or german. Maybe by parsing a <language> - option....
