I had all sorts of problems with PureAudio and my ASUS Xonar HDAV Deluxe. Those problems vanished after I installed the Unifed Xonar drivers. Look here for details:

I am guessing your system specs are out of date and you are not running 0.2.3 on XP SP 2 ?
I am running my Xonar HDAV on XP SP3 and have no issues at all with PureAudio (but I have not updated the drivers in years...)
And do these replacement drivers still allow for HD audio passthrough to my amp? (that site really is not very clear)

Oops, those system specs were heavily outdated indeed!
The UniDrivers should also support HD passthrough.

I am now back on ASUS drivers. I had similar issues with ASIO as I am getting with the latest ASUS drivers but I lost the ability to bitstream HD audio from TMT.
This I think is probably an XP thing though.
