Ok im probably being very silly here...I've set my ATI graphics to 1080p and hooked it up to my 1080p monitor.

There ar eno vertical bars, but there are noticable (1-2cm) horizontal black bars either side - doh! I've heard this is over/underscan or something similar?

Well, i tried making a custom profile to get it to fit, except it wont. I can get the vertical part accurate i reckon, but the horizontal part either goes slightly over or slightly under it seems, i just cant get it to scale properly. Any help? Am i being dense? :D

Out of interest, what TV are you using?
For stretching etc, you should try to lacate this screen, I believe:

    i'm having a similar problem.
i'm using a MSI N9500GT (nvida) graphics card with hdmi out.

when i play a movie i have 2 small black borders on the TV (on the top and bottom side of the tv.
sometimes i also have just a black bar on the left side of the screen. (about 2 to 2,5 cm)
this does not happen with all my movies.
for example the bar on the left i have with all 3 rambo movies, ac/dc no bull and a few others.
if i remember correct those are 4:3 movies and not 16:9
the top and bottom black bars (about 1 to 2 cm) i have with most of the 16:9 movies
the movies in 2:35:1 are not giving me any problems.

if i play a dvd everything looks OK.

for ripping my movies to HDD i use dvdfab platinum
i don't if the problem is with dvdfab, the graphics card or mediaportal.

    anyway i can't find a solution either.
it's very annoying to see those bars.

i have this problem only when playing movies from HDD.

my desktop and etc. are ok

montecriso - that sounds like a separate issue to me. If your desktop is properly filling the screen then it sounds like aspect ratio/codec issues? My desktop is not filling the screen (black veritcal bars on either side) and therefore everything else has to be contained within that.

Jimbawb, did you set the picture mode to "Just scan"? Took me some time to find this ;)

That's the same button on the remote where you switch between 16:9-4:3-zoom-stretch-... in TV mode, but it has this one more option in HDMI mode.
