Synopsis: ATI Remote Wonder II not working

I’ve recently installed MediaPortal and have not yet been able to get my Remote Wonder working.

I had been running the Remote Wonder 3.0.3 software before installing MP. I turned-off the software (leaving the drivers installed) – i.e. no remote in the system tray – and tried MP… no luck.

With the Remote Wonder software off, I installed the recommended X10 software (file named Remote_X10.exe. Still no luck.

Next, I uninstalled the Remote Wonder software. This resulted in items in my Device Manager going looking for drivers. The following three items were affected: ATI Remote Wonder Controller, ATI Remote Wonder II Input Device, and ATI Remote Wonder II Pointing Device. On the next reboot I tried to point Windows at the X10 drivers, but no success. I ended-up having to re-install the Remote Wonder software.

Any ideas?

Search and you will find. ;-)

You need the ATi original drivers.
Then download this http://www.youngtech.net/software/ati/
and finally, replace the .dll with this http://ogadai.dyndns.info/MediaPortal/ATIRW_MediaPortal.zip

Here is the "official thread" where you can find settings:
https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=1866

Unfortunately oxfrombws has left MP, but with above steps, you will hopefully get it running.

Bonus: With this plugin you can start any program (for example MP) with the TV button: http://remotew.free.fr/plugins.htm#tvbutton
There is also a way to change the function of DVD button (default is to start Windows Media Player), it was a registry change of the default DVD playing program, I can't find it right now but make a search or ask me again if you really want it.

Many Thanks!

hakuna - I don't know why I was not able to find the explanation you gave, I thought I had searched through everything. I've got it working now and so many thanks for the very clear instructions and your quick assistance.

I'm having the same trouble as WedgeCan with setting up my ATI Remote Wonder II to function through X10 instead of with the plugin through the Remote Wonder software. I have installed the x10 driver that is guaranteed to work (at least I think I did it right, but the instructions were in German) and enabled the ATI x10 remote function in MP setup. I have tried all manners of closing the remote wonder software, rebooting, etc. to no avail. With the Remote Wonder software running, only a few buttons work, and without the Remote Wonder software running, the remote does nothing at all. Do I need to move some file or another into the MediaPortal folder structure or something?

You have to edit the .ini-file to get (almost) all buttons running. Check the thread above for an example.

Unless I'm mistaken, you're referring to the old plugin for the official RemoteWonder software itself. I have that running fine already, although I've never gone through the painful process of enabling the other buttons through the .ini file as you suggest, since I am far too lazy.

The fact is, it appears that MediaPortal now supports the RemoteWonder (and the RemoteWonder II? not sure...) "natively," through the Configuration program, under the "Remotes" section and the "X10" tab. All the buttons appear to be configured to useful functions by default, with the added benefit of enabling different functions per button depending on the current screen. The only downside appears to be that the remote will no longer function for any other program except MP, but this is not really much of a concern for me.

The problem is, simply, that I cannot get it to work. I tried everything I could think of (and then some), and finally just gave up out of sheer frustration and the inability to find anyone else in the forums who has had similar problems. I'm sure I'm probably just missing some simple step that might be obvious to others, but I couldn't locate any complete instructions for setting it up, so who knows?

I got my Remote Wonder (not sure which model) working with MP 0.2.00 without too much dificulty. I installed the last version of the ATI software from ATI's website (I believe I downloaded the ATI Remote Wonder II software it was about 13 MB) and installed it. I downloaded the X10 software that is linked from the remote tab in MP and isntalled it. Then I went to the remote section in the setup program. Selected X10 tab. Click the ATI model radio button. Clicked Use RF Channel Control. Clicked Learn (it asked to press a button on the remote and I did) and then it said gave another dialog box and I clicked okay. Most or all the keys work on my remote. I don't use the TV function, all my videos are ripped or on DVD.

I have all the button working on my ati remote wonder, but the up and down button seems to be skipping, so I can choose every other heather like from "Play DVD" it jumped to "My Radio" and skipped "My Video". The mouse cursor seems to work fine Is this an issue with my remote or something software related. Thanks in advance for reading

I believe you have to disable the Remote Wonder software that's running in your system tray; otherwise everytime you hit a button it is received twice: once through the remote software and once through MP.

All the last comments seems to be for RW I (one).
The question is if someone has been able to get the X10 driver to work with RW II (two)?
