I'm at a loss here. I don't have the original disk that came with my ATI TV Wonder 600 so I can't install the Catyalyst Media Center so I'm trying Media Portal. Media Portal seems to be running fine and I installed the latest drivers for my device from ATI. In the TV Server Configuration screen my tuner card shows up as Type Unknown Name WDM 2883 TV Tuner and Unknown BDA 2883 TV Tuner. Any ideas anyone? I'm running Windows XP SP3 and I did the 1 click installation.

scotty, I have the same model though you did not specify what type it is (USB, PCI, PCIe). I have the PCIe version and it says ATI Unified AVStream Driver on mine. It does not say 2883 like yours does.

you can see if it is properly installed in your xp by going to Control Panel - Sound. There you should see your ATI device. Post a screen shot of it for us. It should also say the device driver version is .394. that is latest you can get from ATI. I can help you get it started. It definitely works with MP and in fact, MP is a million times better than Catalyst. Trust me. I tried both.

Mine is USB, and I see the same 2883 stuff you mentioned. I was creating a log file when the thing started working. I have no idea what I did to make it work. The last change I made was in the "MediaPortal - TV Service Configuration" program. I disabled the last two (Analog and Radio). See my picture. That seemed to do it.

I still haven't figured out how to get EPG. My TV Guide says there's no data on all my channels. That's the next step.

Hmm, thanks for posting RyanShillington :)
I have looked at the AMD/ATI website and I see that the 600 is a hybrid tuner. This means it can only tune either ATSC/QAM or NTSC (analog) at any given time. Usually such tuners come up as two separate tuners in TV Server configuration, exactly like what you see in your screenshot. I suspect from the names of the tuners in the screenshot that the ATSC/QAM side of the tuner has a BDA driver while the NTSC side of the tuner has a WDM driver. That is *highly* unusual! Anyhow, tuners with WDM drivers are not usually supported. Perhaps disabling the analog tuner with the WDM driver allows the digital tuner with the BDA driver to function...

Regarding EPG: take a look here for instructions for getting EPG from the tuner (over-the-air). Collecting EPG that way can take a little time to fill up the guide, and of course the data has to be available too. I suspect that the data might not be available and you'll have to use something like ScheduleDirect or WebEPG to get EPG data.

By the way, looking back at the original post in this thread I now realise what scotty562 was referring to when he said the tuner came up as "unknown". That generally means that Windows has "lost" the device (this can happen after resuming from sleep/hibernate) or that drivers are not installed correctly.
