I think it is about time we got together to sort out the issues so many of us have with this hardware and Mediaportal.

I have been trying to resolve LiveTV issues with my Acer Revo3610 for months now, and have not been able to come up with anything like a satisfactory answer.

I have searched all over this forum and others to try to get solutions, and whilst there are themes, there is no one set of definitive things to even try.

With so many of us now using these little pocket rockets, from revo 1600, 3600 and 3610 to ASRock Ion330 to various flavours of EeePc, I think a single place for troubleshooting issues might be of use.

I am no kind of a techhead, but will happily moderate discussion and test solutions, as I am sure others will.

A couple of threads I have found which do give some thoughts:

    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/barebones-commercial-htpcs-352/new-toy-asrock-ion-330-a-69441/
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/general-support-51/livetv-problem-after-one-hour-86423/
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-1-1-0-rc-1-2-496/frames-dropped-livetv-79161/

There are so many more, but none give an answer or a set of answers.

    Any interest?

    Hi druid9,

I'd definitely be interested... I bought a Zotac MAG ION 330 box a while back to use as both a client and server and am very happy with it apart from the stuttering on LiveTV. I find it OK when watching anything that doesn't move too quickly, but watching sport (esp. AFL) is pretty much unbearable and I switch to using a STB. I gave up fiddling with things because, like you, I was trying lots of different things but getting nowhere and was yet to read a definitive solution to the problem . Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to play around with it, but would love to hear from anyone who has managed to iron out the Live TV problems.

I'm using XP SP3 with SAF 4, so I'm in a bit of a different boat to yourself, but hopefully there's a magical fix out there somewhere that works for everyone!

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Welcome Aboard!

Have been having a bit of a play around trying to resolve my issues.

Serious improvement by disabling wireless card on my revo (Mine is hardwired to router). Knew this, and thought I had, but one of my many system restores must have re-enabled it.

Have been playing around with DPC Latency Checker (Google It), seems my issues are at least shown up by this, if not solved by it. I have lately downgraded NVidia Graphics driver to version 197.45, and replaced Sound driver with latest from Realtek, seems some improvement

I have also been having a play with a little gentle overclocking per this thread New Acer Revo 3610 Review Forums • View topic - Overclock guide, with some success, I have mine up to about 1800 with no issues (Yet!)

ABC News24 is still a slideshow, but remaining LiveTV is not so bad - about 25 dropped frames per 1000, not noticeable to my sad old eyes.

Let me know how you get on

hey - I'm in - I've got an ASRock - it's 'ok' get's the stutters every now and then but ok (removing Anti-virus seemed to help). Waaaaay better than 25 drops per 1000.

Might give DPC Latency Checker a go though....

    OK. BKCH,

So Cough UP, driver versions, BIOS settings, Codecs used, Renderer, OS?

I can get perfect playback with VMR9, but it has issues in Win7, so with all my results are with following config (prepared to change anything)

    Os: Win 7 using EVR
Codec for Live TV: MPC (Gabest) for video, Audio MPA
Drivers :Nvidia 197.45 Audio Realtek (from Realtek site) ver 52 (can't disturb City Homicide)

    No WiFi
    Nvidia Chipset 150.51

    MP 1.1.0.0
    Skin: Indigo

I should also mention that video playback across the network is perfect, HD Movies, TV Shows recorded and converted to avi, Music Videos etc. Only issue is Live Tv

Acer Revo 3610 as client only, connected by CAT5 to D-Link Router to TV Server

Come to think of it, need a form, will make one based on "My System"

    AW: Atom ION Users Thread

Good thread! My ATOM/ION-system is running more or less stable with Microsoft-codecs for HD and SD. I tried out also Cyberlink, DIVX and others with similar results. That's why my experience is: stuttering is not a question of codecs as long you have a "clean" Windows. When viewing the graph (Shift+1) I notice regular heavy peaks, but normally with no influence on the video quality. Only once in approx. every 5 minutes this effect causes also heavy stuttering. But this is on both liveTV and video material! And this is also valid when overclocking the CPU to 2 GHz.
I run the latency checker and found out that there is a problem with the networking stuff. After deactivating both WLAN and LAN, the Latency checker found no problem on my system, and both TV and Video runs without any stuttering! LAN makes big problems, WLAN makes little problems with the result I described before (of course I need the Internet for OnlineVideo).
I am pretty confident to locate my (and others) problems in the ION-systemcontroller. Something is not synchronous. I wonder if there is any new driver available. And I would like to overclock the ION, but is there anybody to guide my how to do this?

Having some issues here as well with my ION client box.

    OS: Windows 7 64bit
    MEM: 2GB
    Network: 1Gbps hardwired
    Codec: SAF4.0

All works quite well until I have been watching live TV (SD only) for about an hour, then heavy frame dropping occurs. A simple channel change will fix the issue though. All other media streamed across the network runs perfectly.

Hopefully we can figure this out!

I will suggest you to use powerdvd9 codecs or microsoft codecs (win7) for tv. Gabest is not a good solution IMHO, I do even not know if it supports DXVA.

On my ASRock ION I use SAF5 + powerdvd9 for TV (but also microsoft gives good results). NO stutter at all, even with HDTV if I output to 720p.
