I have an issue playing 5.1 audio. The simple problem is my receiver's digital processor croaked, so I only have an analog 2 ch i/o till I can get a new receiver, but trying to buy a house so that will have to wait.

I can use VLC and force the movie to stereo, but how do I do that with MediaPortal? I already when in and configured the codec to output 2.1, but I still receive no audio from my BR rips.

Can anyone tell me how to force mediaportal and the codecs to only output in stereo?

Hi.
If you've installed AC3filter you can add this to Postprocessing on all, TV, Video and DVD. Then simply configure the AC3filter to use Output Format "2/0-Stereo". This will downmix all Audio Streams to stereo. If you get your receiver back, just disable the Postprocessing and all is up as normal.

There are several ways to get your goal.

First you have to identify the audio codec in use, for several audio formats (it can happen that ffdshow-audio is loaded for MP3, AC3filter for AC3 or DTS etc., it can be done with Graphstudio). Try to get a MePo codec configuration of your liking and configure the output of the used codec to 2.0 stereo (quite simple task for ffdsow audio or AC3, just open the config window of these). No postprocessing needed (but also a possible solution, maybe better if you need this only temporarily).

I have no idea of your setup (installed codecs), but the 1st thing I would do is to install latest ffdshow codec (during installation choose 2.0 stereo). Start audio config, set it up to your likings, like "mixer" set to stereo. There you can configure your surround-to-stereo downmix. You can even make your own matrix (eg. give the center speakers more volume) like here: http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/mkv-h264-to-vc-1/005_ffdshow_Audio_Decoder_6_Channels_Configuration.png
