Just wondering why nobody is willing to offer any suggestions or support. After reviewing allot of HTPC on the net. I got really excited to try mediaportal
I got myself a Capture card and away I go...... Did a complete clean install of XP Pro and installed my 500mce
I ran into a few problems and couldn't figure it out why things weren't working....So I decided to post and see what others thought or knew...
I know for allot of other sites with forums doesn't take long before someone posts something which leads you down another path to finding your problem.

Well, Not this site...still not one response to any of my two posts. I ended up finding one solution to my post on my own. I am truly I'm disappointed. I even went onto the IRC channel...Alot of people on their....but they all must not have keyboards attached to their systems.....Sad, I had one.... I not have had if configured wrong... nobody responded?

As for the other I still am trying to figure out but, don't have any idea why it won't work.

My problem...
I have a Hauppauge 500mce
When I do a scan on the TV and FM. It scans through all the channels fine and finds all TV channels and FM, but doesn't store any of them. or list anything.
When I run Mediaportal and try TV I get an error on the EPG saying that I need to scan my channels first! da... only did that like 20 times already
How do I get a 500mce to work with mediaportal???

Anyone??

Wow, you're angry because on a site that is a forum for open source software no one responded to your questions fast enough for you?

It's a shame that no one responded on IRC, but given that most of the people there are in Europe, maybe they weren't at the PC at the time. was other chat going on or was the channel silent? that would be a good clue?

I don't have a 500 card, so can't answer. Hopefully someone else will come along who can and they are in a mood to answer you, even though you seem to believe you deserve an answer.

This is a very helpful and active community, just chil out and be patient. It may also help to give all the information reqested, not just edit a tiny amount in.

    Hi,

    1) Remember, this is a free and opensource application. People are working on the spare time at it. You cannot expect a reaction right after posting. Christmas is not far away, so people have different things in their mind. :)
    2) You had not much view on your topics, this could be because of 1) or because you did not choose a proper topic. Something like "Problems with Hauppauge PVR 500" may have attracted way more people.
    3) Most users come from Europe. That may be the reason for the silence on IRC.

    To your problem:
    1) The PVR 500 should work quite fine. So there is now need for SVNs
    2) On autoscan make sure that MP really saved the channels. See picture one, the marked areas should be filled
    3) Make sure that all channels are assigned to both tuners. See picture two.
    4) Do you run your XP with admin rights or with a user? If MP does not store the channels it could be because of the lack of rights.
    5) Can you add channels manually? Just hit add on the autotune page...
    6) Do not know the Canadian EPG, but there has to be an option to map the scanned channels to the EPG channels. Can this be done somewhere?

HTH and have a nice second Advent,
    Flip.

First off I would like to apologize to everyone. In no way did I want to offend the community and the work being done on this site.
As a CEDIA installer. I got really excited to this software and the potential it could produce. Medial portal is doing what others are charging home owners 25,000 for a basic setup. http://www.kaleidescape.com/
Yes, their are differences in each and there functionality, but medialPortal has Class.

My problem was that I desperately wanted to give medial portal a try and test it to its limits. This is when I started to get really frustrated.
When I see a new product.... it tends to never really be supported in Canada or is very limited to features up here, or simply, not supported at all and don't work....why? is it because... most people think we still live in igloo's. And the developers think that we don't have computers in our igloos? so why should we support them! (that was a joke)

I simply can not get my 500mce up and running with media portal. 3 full days of surfing and checking posts, web sites, IRC. I got nothing close to my problem....Yes, it could be right in fount of me ( I must have missed it)....I took it a step further and completely reformatting my drive and installed a new copy of XP.
    Still the same problem.
then I start to think it must be the EPG in Canada....So I get set up with Schedules Direct for my EPG.
then after I scan the channels and run media portal.... I get the Schedules Direct say to me that it couldn't find any channels and asks me if I was sure to scan channels????
Yes...Ive done this 20 times already....but nothing sticks!

    And still nothing.

    FlipGer
    In regards to your response.

    2) On autoscan make sure that MP really saved the channels. See picture one, the marked areas should be filled
Yes,this is a big part of my problem....I scan and the left window in your first picture shows the channels that are being scanned (I can see all channels no problem and even hear them. The right window...where the channels should be saved...are not being saved, after the scan is done there is still nothing in that window?

    3) Make sure that all channels are assigned to both tuners. See picture two.

this page has always been blank...no matter what i scan.

    4) Do you run your XP with admin rights or with a user? If MP does not store the channels it could be because of the lack of rights.

I'm the only user on this comp...am I missing something?

OK, so first of all, does the 500 card work with the Huappuage software? This will show whether the problem lies with MP or the card itself.

Second, the card should work well, since most of the devs use Huappuage hardware. If you really can't get it to work in MP with the default TV enginne, try using the TV Server version. The download links are on the top right of the home page. This uses a totally different system for TV and also has the advantage of being able to record even when MP isn't running. It does take a bit longer to install, but has a lot more features.

Third, you really need to post some more information about your setup and some log files. Scan for channels, then save then post the config.log file. then start MP, try to view a channel, exit and then also post the Mediaportal.log file.

Fourth, FlipGer means that you need to make sure that you are logged in as a user with admin rights. This could explain why the settings aren't being saved.

    Hi,

    what about 5)?

Please also attach LOG-Files. They are also generated on running the Configuration and can be found in the /Team Media Portal/MediaPortal/logs/ folder.

Heheh, that was point number three in my post :)

Wolfer, you may also want to edit the title of this thread, as you may be alienating people who would otherwise be providing answers.

I changed title and added more info on my system, here are also the log files attached. I haven't tested the card with any other software. I will try and test it with the Huappuage software.

    5) Can you add channels manually? Just hit add on the autotune page...

When I try, I can set it up and give it a name and all that. when i hit okay...nothing is added. I try this over and over cannot get it to add a channel.

He's a pic of what happens after a complete scan

Went to Hauppauge site and d/l the WinTV 6 and drivers...took me a bit to get it going.... finally got it up and running.
WinTV installed new drivers and stuff.
I was able to view all channels in my area and radio stations.
I went back to media Portal and tried a rescan..........same thing......it will scan the channels and show the channels as it scans through...but it will not list the channels as it finds then. I get the same image as in the last post.

    Hi,

goto /Team Media /Portal/MediaPortal/database/ and delete TVDatabaseV21.db3. For safety reasons you can rename or move it to another folder. Seems as if this database was not created correctly. MP will recreate it on running Configuration again.

    HTH,
    Flip.
