Hi All,
Just to let you know that I have successfully installed the AVerMedia Volar Black HD DVB-T tuner (USB) on my HTPC with MediaPortal. I can confirm that compatibility is fine for TV and radio. Picture quality is good but it is important to use the right MPEG2 decoder. I found that the Gabest decoder was much better than the others I tried (very old version of NVidia PureVideo and ffshow). This was especially noticeable on sports where fast moving scenes blur naturally with Gabest, but with other decoders there is lots of jitter and "ghosting" - even my wife noticed the difference
By the way, a neat trick (IMHO) is to use a USB repeater to move the tuner and aerial further from the PC instead of running a longer RF cable. This way you have less trouble with RF interference etc. I got good results indoor with the supplied aerial, by the way - YMMV.
One nice thing about this tuner is that the installer comes with a very clear "install drivers only" option, so you can avoid the inferior TV software and just get straight on with MediaPortal! Another thing is that it will stream 2 (perhaps more?) FreeView DVB-T channels in parallel.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 and MediaPortal 1.0.2.
