back using MP :)how can i play files through browsing? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys

I have been using meedio for a while and decided (wisely ) to come back to MP. i have a Q thougj, i can figure out how to play media files through browsing them. I used this option alot in meedio. i like to have to ablility (like in meedio or Sagetv) to open any file on my comp through my HTPC and play it in the internal (or external) player if needed. Is that possible in MP?

Hi.

Seems a lot of meedio-users have abandoned it in the aftermath of its sell-out. Frankly, I'm ashamed that I didn't do this a long time ago, seeing as how far MP has come since I last used it.

Regarding your question, I've been looking for the same thing - assuming youre referring to the "My computer" browsing capability - but it doesnt seem to be supported. Personally, after getting used to MP, I don't see the use of such a function. All the media players have a browsing function included (only folders needs to be added manually).

thx for the answer, when you mean all the media players, do you mean internal players of MP? and if so how do you open a file with them?

Hi!

You first have to decide what to play: Music? Then go to My Music and browse your Music directories or database
Video? My Movies
Pics? My Pictures
Streams? My Radio (I know not 100%).

I personally enjoy browsing all "things" more than deciding on a "section" of a program first as well, but implementing that the way i like it will take some more time.

thx for the answer again! Yet what i mean is the ability to open a video/music file thats not in the library, for example if i just dl a new video and its not imported yet can i go inside MP and open/play it within MP?

Hi again,

Each browser has the ability to show the tree structure of the directories. Use the Switch View to select what to see.

im sorry for being stupid probably, but when i switch views in my MP i only get diffrent library views, how can i open a file that not in my imported folders? foe example, i have c:\music in my import folders and i want to open a file from Z:\newmusic form within MP? is there s specific view i should add?

The directory view will only show what you have added as shares in MP. If you got through and add all your drive letters, you can then browse any file in any folder.

you could try the my explorer plugin, but i am not sure if you can start playback with it.

there is also a music share watcher, but that will probably only work on music which is in your shares but not imported to the database (haven´t used it myself)
