Is it possible to configure the Bass player to output to the ASIO driver?
I would like to avoid going through the kernel mixer.

I know that there are plugins for both winamp and foobar2000, but if possible then i would rather use the integrated Bass player.

    Yes, it is possible.
However i need to develop some things to make this possible.
And i need to get hardware first allowing me to do ASIO support.

i put it on my list.
Not highest priority, but i may do it in the next months or so.

    Hi hwahrmann,

I'm having problems with my RME 96/8 soundcard. The BASS engine won't play any music file on this card. The MP interface hangs for a few seconds when selecting a music file and it won't start the file.

I think (almost know for sure) it is the way the BASS engine connects to my soundcard. It is an audiophile soundcard with it's own drivers which bypasses the kernel mixer. If you select Default DirectSound device it actually simulates a Waveout device.

So probably that is the problem?

If you need more info please ask (the log files are empty it says it is starting a music file and that's it, no errors are given.)

As with SVN 12677 i've added ASIO support.

In Configuration -> MUsic -> Music ASIO you can select the ASIO device, which will be used for playback.

This could be fantastic news. I've been begrudgingly running WinAmp since I realised the sonic difference in bit-perfect sound playback. Looks like I'll have my DTS-CDs and pretty pictures. (not that the raw DTS data is going to mean much to the visualisation!).

Thank you so much for adding this in, even more because I can see this particular code has no personal relevence to you. :)

PS. Is that the patch that is due in about 20 mins?

Just making sure i understand this correctly:

Would this new BASS option + ASIO4All mean that we get bitperfect - no upsampling- kernel streaming on any audio device?

Just a 'yes' will do to make me happy :)

The SVN update is there now.

I just set it up with volume level 100, and now DTS-CDs (stored as WAV in FLAC) stream perfectly over my digital link without WinAMP.

Thankyou hwarrman, this is a major difference!

Well, YES. Pretty much :) it also depends on whether you digitally connect to an external amp. If you do, you'll need digital outs that do 44.1. CMedia 878 chips are in a lot of cheap soundcard devices, and they do.
