What is the best codec to use? I am just using the default codec that comes with mediaportal and windows xp mce. Should I use the ffdshow that I see discussed.

NVIDIA's PureVideo codec is quite popular and a good choice if you have an NVIDIA card. Its not free of course.

Otherwise there is InterVideo and PowerDVD codecs (also not free, but frequently ship free with various computer parts such as DVD drives, motherboards and video cards).

ffdshow is mostly an MPEG-4 codec, if i remember correctly the MPEG-2 part is 'experimental' :)

You can't, because TV Server uses only the stream. MediaPortal is responsible for bringing it on the screen.

As kiesow says, the TV server had nothing todo with the playback codec, i thought you mean the codec used in a client working with TV server (such as MP with the tv server plugin) :)

I do not know why this xml was in my theme folders, it must have sneaked in some time ago (years?). I simply removed the file. The Latest Media Handler plugin seems to be working as expected. I've had no lock-ups.

Sorry, it's my fault -- I did not notice that you are using MP2. :( MP1 has a separate configuration utility, similar to "TV Server Config". I have tried MP2 only a couple of times, and have never used it seriously. I don't know what MP2 supports with regard to adjusting audio delay, but I do know that all of the adjustments of...
