Hi all I have a big problem and no idea what it is, maybe anybody can help here...

I recently decided to reinstall everything on my HTPC. (wanted to add a new Hard drive and clean up anyway)
Did a format of the C drive, install XP. all is fine.
Internet works instantly, as does the network (I can find my other PC over the network via router).
Start updating windows, the first update is fine.
Restart, update to Service Pack 2. installs ok and no errors to restart.

Now the problem, after the restart my internet connection works for a very short time (like 10 seconds), I can just make 1 google search or get to the MS update site...
After this the browser wont connet to anything.
Network connections shows no errors and says all is fine, also my network connection to my other PC works!
There are no IP conflicts and typing IPCONFIG gives a normal IP adress.

Could my networkcard be damaged? (2 days ago there was a fire in my street and the power was disconnected suddenly)
I really have no idea anymore, since internet works before SP2, i think my motherboard and networkconnection hardware are fine...
But I really don't know what could be the conflict since it is a clean install with a formatted harddrive and the network drives that came with the motherboard.

Anybody got any idea or suggestions?
Will try the latest network drivers from MSI tonight, or mybe update BIOS?

Any address that will respond to a ping. I generally just ping google.com because I know for sure it will respond. The reason I'm asking this is that if you are hitting an external address with a basic ping you should be able to narrow it down to a software problem.

So I just type PING GOOGLE.COM in the c:\ screen?
Will try it tonight (with a new install before I install SP2)

You could using System Restore to roll-back your system to a pre-SP2 state and see if it works then. If not, then it's not an SP2 issue so you can then undo the System Restore to "re-install" SP2 easily.

    Good Luck,

    Fixed it!

Don't know exactly what the problem was...
I downloaded all the newest drives for my motherboard, including new BIOS, and installed these after the installation of XP (so before any update).

And now it works perfect.. so I think that the old network driver was not working well with the SP2...
    Thanks you your suggestions!
