Hi!

I'm having some problems with the exlusive DirectX9 mode in MediaPortal.
When playing fullscreen video the screen goes black. If I pause it I will get the on screen display.
Audio is working ehile the video is playing.

The reason I want to use the exclusive mode is that otherwise I have lots of tearing in the video, and a lot of forum poster have suggested that the exclusive mode would fix this.

Selecting different codecs does not seem to help, I have also experimented quite a bit with installing and deinstalling different codecs to fix this.

Other mediaplayers like BSPlayer and GBPVR does not have any problems.

Hopefully someone can help me fix this because even with the tearing I have grown addicted to mediaportal and each time I try something else I come back to mediaportal because I miss some feature.

    Hi Torbjörn

Telling us which TV Card would help :D
Just a guess [quote I come back to mediaportal because I miss some feature.] Did you delete your old MP folder as not compatible with new versions, Screws thing up.
Also notice your running MP on a Laptop, I know the xpress 200 is directx 9 compatible but not sure if it has enough power.
Have you tried the nvidia purevideo codec as this does seem to take the pressure off the pc.

Tearing does tend to point to a graphics problem not outputting quickly enough for the refresh rate, hence tear appears.
And the rest of your laptop looks way capable of handling processing.

    Hi.

    Thanks for answering.

My TV card is a hauppage Win-tv 150 PVR, but I don't think the problem has anything to do with it because the problem is happening also when not watching TV. I mainly use MP to watch DivX movies.

The computer is not a laptop, I'm not sure what would give you that idea.

I did not delete the old version, just uninstalled it, but if that is a possible cause I will try it.
I have been noticing the problem since I uppgraded to the 0.2 versions from 0.1.3 the 0.2 versions I have tried are RC2, a CVS build from a couple of months ago and RC3.

I haven't tried the purevideo codec, I will try that.

Another possible clue is that I had Reclock installed and when I ran MP in exlusive mode Reclock complainend that my graphics card was not compatible, Reclock never complained without exclusive mode. I have since uninstalled reclock but I guess that my card could have some kind of incomatibility problems.

    Hi,

Are you using a recent driver for your video card? I'm not sure but I don't think GBPVR and BSPlayer use VMR9? If not, try updating your drivers. I think your card should be able to handle it.

    Kind regards,
    Michel

    Hi

Im using the 06.3 Catalyst drivers, that should be the latest I think.

I have also now tried to use the NVIDIA purevideo but I saw no improvement. The NVIDIA decoder only seem to be a MPEG2 decoder though, and I mainly use the system to view DivX video.

I have also tried to do a clean reinstall of MP, but that to didn't improve the playback.
I must say though that the TV setup wizard was a big improvement on earlier versions. It tuned through and selected all my channels even assigning the correct name to some, very good!!!

The old VMR7 render seems to have worked much better on my system, is there any way to use that with the new 0.2MP?

    Hi,

VMR7 support has been completely removed from MP, so VMR9 is your only option. Maybe the problem is related to the XViD / DiVX codec you installed? You might want to try out GraphEdit (see the downloads section on the homepage) and see which DS filters are being used by the movie player. Changing codecs in MP only affects MPEG2 playback, not other type of movies. If you have multiple codecs installed for a specific type of video source, the codec with the highest merit is chosen.

To connect to remote graphs with GraphEdit, you first meed to register proppage.dll. After that, just start MP (and start playing back the movie). Next (while the movie is still playing), start GraphEdit and choose File -> Connect to Remote Graph.

    Kind regards,
    Michel

    exclusive directx blank screen

Hi....and thanks to the team for a fantastic program. Damn good job.

I have the same issue on my htcp.....if i turn on exclusive directx, my screen goes blank running fullscreen. Both for movies and live tv, but sound is still on. It has been the same issue with all my installations of MP.......Though it's just an issue, cause my picture and speed, and everything else, is fine.

I've tried different setups with codecs and so on, but never succeded in runiing exclusive mode.

Ok now I have checked the graph with graphedit.
    It is:
    movie file-> avi splitter -> ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder -> VMR 9
:avi splitter -> ffdshow Audio Decoder -> Default DirectSound Device (with a clock)

Not sure if there is anything wrong with it, it looks very simple avi splitter to the audio and video codecs to the renderers.

Maybe it is just my graphics card that is too slow :-(

I am having the same problem with DVDs if I use the internal player.
Audio plays fine and if I go to windowed mode back to fullscreen it will work, but if I start in fullscreen only black with audio.

My configuration is pretty much the same as the OP except the video card is a 6600GT using the dongle to component.
I have tried every codec and the same thing.

If I use an external player like WinDVD or Theatertek through MediaPortal it works fine.

I do not use the TV portion of MediaPortal.

I have reinstalled MediaPortal and the Video drivers after doing a thorough cleaning of the registry and still the same issue.

If I uncheck exclusive Directx fullscreen it will work.

    Thanks,
    Mark
