ArcSoft has pretty good HD DVD & Blu-Ray playback application http://www.arcsoft.com/public/software_title.asp?ProductID=362 TotalMedia Theatre

Their player comes with a MCE plugin that has nice 10 foot GUI and support for MCE remote. Using their player will give almost as good user experience as fully integrated, native Mediaportal Blu-Ray / HD DVD playback.

Currently this plugin is beta, so use with a care :)

    Current features

    - Play HD DVD / Blu-Ray disk from the MediaPortal main menu
    - Automatic FPS detection and refresh rate change (possible with MP >1.0.1)
    - Auto play support (possible with MP >1.0.1)
    - Localization
    - Saving and restoring power scheme (Arcsoft's player can change this based on its own settings)

    Upcoming features

    - Allow custom icon to be used for the plugin

    Installation

    - Install the MPI file
    - Use plugin settings to provide the path to the Arcsoft's MCE plugin
    - You might need to change some Arcsoft's MCE plugin settings (for example make sure that drive letter is set up correctly)

    Usage

    - Insert HD DVD / Blu-Ray disk into drive
    - Press "Play Bluray" in main menu (if no autoplay is configured)
    - Use MCE remote to control playback

    Version history

    Beta 2
    - Initial release (not available anymore as people seemed to download this instead of the beta 3 :))

    Beta 3
    - Added option to minimize MediaPortal during playback
    - Added option to suspend MediaPortal GUI engine rendering during playback
    - Last version that supports MP 1.0

    Beta 4
    - Added autoplay support for HD DVD
    - Added autoplay support for Blu-Ray
    - Added refresh rate change (not tested well)
    - Added localization support

    Beta 5
    - Fixed hard coded drive letter (caused playback to fail in most of the cases)

    Beta 6
    - Fixed enable/disable refresh rate setting not working
    - Added French localization

    Beta 7
    - Added saving and restoring power scheme (Arcsoft's player can change this based on its own settings)
    - Fixed some issues with drive letter handling
    - Added drive letter selection for HD DVD / Blu-Ray drive

NOTE! requires latest SVN for MP itself (or 1.0.2).

    Information

    - Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre - AVS Forum
    - Missing Remote

    Disabling animated intro

To start with a blank black screen rename \Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Extreme\Digital Theatre\PlayDVDSplash_noSRS.log to something else

    Hi Tourettes

do you think this player is better than powerdvd8? I have really big problems with it and HDCP even if I have an hardware configuration that should support it without problems?

    Thanks

Not sure, I guess you have just test. Arcsoft provides a trial version so you can test it for free.

Btw. their player handles also HD DVDs.

well....this i am gonna test for sure. Worked it out with powerdvd, that almost works flawless.
Only 2 negative points are indeed, external play..and slow file selection in the "open file" menu.

I'll try later on, en give some feedback

I bought a Lite-On DH401S Bluray driver over the weekend.

It comes with PowerDVD 7.3 but unfortunately I can not get DTS or DD over SPDIF to my receiver with this software.Googled around and found that Arcsoft player is working well with SPDIF and planning to give it a try tonight.

If it works as it has been told; I would be happy to use this plugin in my MP setup.

Any experience with Arcsoft and SPDIF ??

I am using PDVD 8 and it all works fine, so I have not wanted to change to Arcsoft - however heard it was better. I have also been waiting for a plugin like this, as Its great that there is a real 10ft interface.

Can I assume that with this plugin, when you tell arcsoft to exit, it goes back to Media Portal? and doesnt tyr and launch MCE :)

    Hey guys,
I just steped into the Blue Ray stuff this weekend.
Started from scratch with PowerDVD what was included to the drive, but the playback was stuttering, and sound was choppy.
So I installed the Arcsoft software which does a quiet good job while running standalone.
Then I integrated the plugin and cant even see the menu of the BlueRay without chopping. CPU usage increaded about 40%. From 60% usage while stand alone playing to 100% wile using the plugin.

    greets.
