can some one help me figure this one out. I have (had) a MP system that I built a couple of weeks ago and has been stable for a while. 3 days ago I started getting bluescreens on HD content (x.264 tv recordings or live tv).

I have traced it to h/w acceleration - if I turn this OFF under my x.264 codec (pdvd 7) in mediaportal, the HD content doesn't crash the box. but of course, the box then has to work its socks off to keep up.

I get windows vista problem reports saying
Code:
A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

sometimes the graphics driver crashes and more-or-less recovers, sometimes the whole box reboots.
my MP crash log is as per the attachment.

is this a codec problem or has my h/w gone bad? unfortunatley its builtin gfx on mobo so it will need whole mobo swap :-(

if anyone suggests any alternative codecs / drivers please be very specfic. Ive already tried a few differnet ati catalyst builds with no improvement. I have also done a complete rebuild of my machine from a known good stable vista image (several times).

Not sure if this helps you,

I had simular crashes with hd broadcasts. But it only gave me bluescreens when I had this codec combo : For SD content Cyberlink 8 SD BD-HD and for HD content cyberlink H264.

I changed this to : For SD content Cyberlink SD and for HD content cyberlink H264

Tada : bluescreens or automatic reboots after severe display corruption are gone.

I've tried last night that but no success. one thing - I don't have a codec called "cyberlink SD".its called something else (not on the htpc right now so can't remember exactly).

which exact codec did you configure? also which exact versions of cyberlink, and ati drivers, are you using?

    thanks,
    Ian
