I just bought a pioneer bluray player for my htpc and I would like to use media portal as my default player. I have powerDVD ultra on it at the moment so it would be easy enough to use the codecs from that. like in the DVD player option.

I was dissapointed with Power DVD because the stretch feature doesn't work in 1080p for some reason so that is why I would like to see it in mp and use mp's stetch feature.

Unfortunately it is not possible, because Cyberlink blocks the use of their (blu-ray/hddvd) codecs by other applications. So you can't view encrypted BD Movies with another application than PowerDVD.

Codecs aren't the issue. There are multiple codecs that are able to decode the HD video & audio content on BluRay & HD DVD disks. But there aren't currently available any navigator filters for those HD formats...

Of Course you can decode and view decrypted Blu-Ray content, because the video codecs used aren't different to whats already used a lot. Navigator filter is also a problem - yes - because BDJ features are very wide and somewhat complex. But the real problem is that you can't play Blu-Ray content legally because of AACS, and I don't see a solution for this problem in open-source software in the near future.

This is a big bummer!!

I was planning to use mediaportal for my upcoming HTPC with blu-ray/HDDVD drives (Pioneer and Toshiba)

But since Power DVD Ultra is the one to play both formats (and backups of both formats on HDD) I guess it's a problem in mediaportal.

Is there any way to run Power DVD Ultra from inside Mediaportal?

All I want is the HTPC to start Power DVD Ultra and play it when I insert it, then close Power DVD Ultra when I close the tray (efter I watched movie, stopped it, opened the tray/removed disc an closed it empty)

is there any way to solve this by letting Power DVD Ultra run outside mediaportal (autoplay?) ???

    mascot,

i am not sure if you got your question answered and if you found i way to this.

But here is my solution :

    1. Setup autoplay for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray to PowerDVD

    2. if you have any ripped HD Discs put each into an .iso

    3. download deamontools and set it up

    4. download fastmount, install it and set it up for .iso ( normally the automount
function from Mediaportal should also do the job of fastmount but i had no
    luck, so ... )

    5. setup Mediaportal in the part for deamontools

    6. setup myilms and therefor an ANT moviedatabase with the link to the ripped .iso.
For the discs you don't have to setup a link, you only have to let the url file

    7. if you setup the myfilms plugin correct ( location of the database, which field contains
the link to the movie etc. ) everytime you will start a movie within myfilms the .iso
will be started and therefor deamontools mounts them. Afterwards because you
setup the autoplay PowerDVD comes up and starts the movie.

    8. If you press the close application remotebutton or close PowerDVD with the mouse
    you're back to Mediaportal

    9. if the HD disc is not ripped on the harddisc, so you have the disc and within the ANT
moviedatabase you didn't change the certain field for the location links, you will be
asked for putting in the disc. Do this and after closing the tray your PC will check
which disc is inserted and will also do the autoplay action ...

This works great for me and is a good solution until ther is a solution for a complete
integrated solution in Mediaporta ( maybe sometime ).

The only little prolbem for me is the handling of 2 different framerates because the
HD discs have 24 fps and some TV recordings have 50 fps for me. I got a way of solution
with zebons to do it within a setup of the ANT moviedatabase and the use of myfilms
plugin. But at the moment i have to discuss a problem coming up using it. Because at
the moment it seems not possible to change the framerate and start building up the
    filter graph ...

this way works perfect for me except a issue that once I´ve launch pwdvd8 in full screen mode somehow when i send a command from my remote(harmony as a MCE controler) it works over MP and not over PWDVD,how you fix that???
    thanks!!
