It's understandable that some functions with a server/client setup might take longer, since all actions are 'routed' over network instead of local calls. For instance, starting to watch a channel might take longer. ( client tells server to tune to channel over network, server starts tuning and buffering the stream, server starts stream over network, client start playing network stream, etc. etc )
However, to avoid people 'thinking' that a system is not responding/hanging a 'busy' animated image (like the round walking icon with weather loading etc.) might be a solution. At least see that the client is kinda 'busy' doing something.
