MediaPortal only uses directshow filter I believe, so you'll have install one for ogm.

I can play ogm files in MP TV Series.
Do you have .ogm in your list of video extensions? (It's a Media Portal/Video setting not a MP TV Series one)

First off: there are some issues with the latest Mediaportal (32bits vs 64bits), so that is one of the issues you're stumbling with.
If you take the previous version (1.31) it should work as expected.
