I’m somewhat a newbie when it comes to media centers (and forums :). But I have identified the problem and looking to see if mediaportal is my solution.

I have a unique situation with a very high end new sony vaio desktop/vista64 and my new satellite tv system where by it has 2 tuners and a setup that requires me to set the one main channel at anything above channel 69 -this is how I get tv in my main room and in the bedroom and on the pc via coax & appropriate splitters

This method works for me on an older xp running (sony) giga pocket because I can set the giga pocket channel to say, channel 73 (or any I choose)

I get live TV on my pc and I change channels via my satellite remote and I am able to record via giga pocket & export to mpg2 to the hard drive.

But alas, giga pocket for vista (let alone 64bit) is not available and I am stuck with having to use the windows media center. But with the problem that it will not let me set a channel above #69 with an additional petpeeve that one can only save to dvr-ms format not to avi or mpg.

So, I need to leave MCE behind me and get a different media solution.

I don’t need to program to bring up multiple channels or tie into a database or shedule start/end tv programs -nothing like that. I just want a solution that will allow me to set the one channel to #73 whatever, have a record button on the mediaportal interface and allow me to record to whatever is on my TV at that moment in time…

Sorry I rambled on, but I just gotta know if mediaportal is for me???
-and which download do I need..

(I obviously have direct x9 and .net, high end video card etc etc)

my tv tuner is
AVerMedia® A313A US Analog TV Tuner Driver

I would really appreciate if someone could confirm that I’m on the right track…

Thx, muchly

i don't see why MP wouldn't be able to select the chanel your after. download any version, probably go for the latest. don't wory about it being beta, the "stable" versions aren't exactly stable so you may as well use a beta.

aditionaly, if its usefull you can get hardware so MP can change the channls on your sateright TV system, therefor enabling it to record things better.

Yes it sounds like a basic set up is what you are asking for. Fine to start with. IMHO I would use 1.0.2 version at least to get going with.
If it all works how you like then try setting up an IR blaster so your remote integrates directly with MP.
That way you can use the EPG (TV listing guide) and schedule recordings on any channel automatically.
