I´ve already tried many codecs in the DVD player such as: power dvd; zoomplayer; nvidia, etc...

Some dvd work with a codec and others don´t

The most stable so far looks like the zoomplayer and nvidia because i can play all DVD i´ve tried so far but still have problemas with some menu navigation, if i start the movie right away without using the menu options, all works fine.

What i also find strange, is that if i choose for example, nvidia menu navigator under MP Settings, MP doesn´t even start the DVD playback, if i choose the standard MP navigator + nvidia (or anyother) codec, i have the refered issues with the menus.

What do you guys use?

I just went through this issue and after I installed PowerDVD 7.x and chose PowerDVD for the navigator and all codecs, I can now play every DVD I tested (I only tested about a dozen, but they were all ones I could not play previously). Menus work well but I still have a small stutter in playback every few seconds. I'm working on clearing that up now. Prior to using PowerDVD I had a black screen on many of my movies.

Already tried power DVD 7.?, but with this navigator, always get black screen.

Do i need a particular power DVD version?

Mine is version 7.3 but that's the only version I tried. I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not. I was told that the version 8.x navigator does not work with MediaPortal, but as far as I know, any version 7 one should work.

Ok, i give up :(

Just tried power DVD 7.3 navigator and get black screen again, i´m using MP 1.0, what is your MP version?

Currently i´m using the zoomplayer codec with the standard navigator, it´s the best combo so far, all my DVD´s play perfectly, except for the root menu.

I'm using the final version of 1.0.0.0. I'm not only using PowerDVD for the navigator but also for all the Video and DVD codec settings as well.

Me too, and also using the latest 1.0.0.0 version. I set the power DVD to do both navigation and codec but it does not work, it only works without the power DVD navigator. Well, never mind, but thanks again for your help.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. That was the magic combination for me. Good luck.

I also had lots of problems with DVD navigation, or at least in finding a setting that resulted in reasonable de-interlacing and usable navigation.

BTW, I didn't experiment with audio decoders because I only want stereo and the standard MP decoder works fine for me.

    Here's what I found, YMMV...

Platform: Windows XP Pro, SP3, fully up to date with all patches, English
    MP 1.0.0.0
Video: nVidia 6200TC. (Why? I want dual DVI output and passive cooling and a single slot design. It works perfectly and the card cost 8 Euros on eBay!)
Dual screen, MP on "second screen"
I run a VNC server on the "first screen", so my setup is a bit strange in some regards.

    So....

Standard MP decoder ("out of the box")
    --------------------------------
Navigation is a disaster. Approx 30% of DVDs give strange side effects or just give black screen during navigation. WAF = 0
De-interlacing is perfect. Better than all other decoders tried(!)

    Standard MP decoder with EVR
    --------------------------------
Unstable on my system. From what I could see the navigation was slightly better.

    Intervideo WinDVD
    --------------------------------
    Navigation is perfect.
De-interlacing is a disaster on all possible settings. Complete mess on sources originally shot for TV.

    PowerDVD
    --------------------------------
Navigation does not show cursor but otherwise works. WAF = 0
De-interlacing is OK. I have this one DVD that is very strange and only MP plays it perfectly. On all other DVDs the result is correct.

    nVidia PureVideo
    --------------------------------
    Navigation is perfect.
De-interlacing is OK. I have this one DVD that is very strange and only MP plays it perfectly. On all other DVDs the result is correct.
    Frame rate is noticeably higher.
    CPU load is lower.
Also TV is noticeably better quality (less noisy, even without using the "noise reduction", or am I imagining this?) with higher frame rate.

So, for me PureVideo won the contest. I bought it, the bronze edition costs USD19.99 which is, let's be honest, peanuts (how much did the rest of your system cost!?!)
