I just changed from using TVE2 (built in TV Engine) to TVServer using MP 1.0.2. I did a clean install. Everything installed correctly, I downloaded MS SQLServer 2005 during the install. It loaded correctly accepted the password and I was able to open TVServer Configuration, scan my channels and preview them.
However, when I try to access MyTV in MP GUI I get a message:
"Please specify the IP address or host name of the master TV Service. Current Setting: [computername]"
where [computername] is the name of my computer, which is what it says it should be in TVServer Configuration
If I reenter my computer name, or enter localhost, I get a dialog box with the message:
"Unable to connect to the TVServer | Connected to the database | All IP ports appear to be fine"
If I enter the IP address 127.0.0.1 it tries to connect to TVServer, but responds with the error:
"Connection to TVService lost"
I am using Vista SP1. I do not have a network, my computer is a member of Workgroup.
I spent 8 hours solid trying to work this out. Reinstalled several times. And several days subsequently testing. I tried all the 'fixes' I could find in the forums (and there are a lot of varied cases of this problem!)
I tried installing MS Loopback Adapter, but the instructions say to enter an IP address of 127.0.0.1 which Vista would not accept. It said 127.0.0.1 was reserved!
The only workaround that worked for me was to add my computername to the hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost [computername]
However, I do not know much about networking and I do not know the implications of this workaround, although it does not appear to cause any problems. I am grateful to Singer68 for at least finding this fix. However, I would like to be able to configure and use TVServer properly.
The only error messages I can find that seem to be relevant are:
1. In MP error.log [ERROR][TvClient-Radio: HeartBeat transmitter thread]: TVHome: Error occured in constructor: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
2. In TVServer error.log [MPMain]: RemoteControl - Error checking connection state
3. In Vista System Event log: Event ID 15016 Unable to initialize the security package kerberos for server side
authentication.
4. In Vista Applications Event log: Warning: The configuration of the AdminConnection\TCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid.
My log files are attached.
Since TVE2 is being discontinued and a lot of single seat users will be switching to TVServer, I am hoping they will not have to go through the nightmare I have. I hope this problem is unique to my system. But if it is not, I am happy to test things you suggest to try and make the installation easier.
