    Synopsis::

    Basically, i cannot play anything... no DVD, no AVI, no Xvid, no DivX..
    nothing happens...
    I can however, do all these things in Media Player 10.

    I do not have a TV card installed yet, as i am testing on laptop before final migration from MCE, but i would not think that the lack of a TV card would cause this problem.

    Here is a copy of my log when i try to play a DVD :

    My guess would be your video card/chip (Sis M760gx (64 MB) ) is the culprit - MediaPortal uses VMR9 and I don't think that your video card/chip supports this mode - I could be wrong, though?

    i see...

    however, i have no idea what VMR9 is... or overlay for that matter..

    Anyone care to explain them to me in some detail and how i would go at switching between them ?

    Thanx Taipan... much appreciated.

    cheers

    Here's a couple of articles at microsoft.com that might help - VMR9 and Overlay modes

    You can't switch between them with the latest releases of MediaPortal - VMR 9 is the default/standard. Hence, you need a video card that supports VMR9 and preferably DirectX 9....

    Thanx Califo....
    I ended up doing a fresh install of WinXP and this time, i used MP version 0.1.3 . All the settings were already on overlay, and it all worked ( very slow though ).
    However, when i changed to VMR9, it all stopped working again.
    Just to be sure, i set all to overlay again, and yes it once again worked. So it seems like Taipan was right.

    Anyway, i will have to try it on a proper desktop machine. I am bed ridden at the moment with a bad back which is why i am fiddling on a laptop.

    Cheers guys.. thanx for your help.
