I can play most videos in Online Videos without any problem, but for some reason I get the "Can't play... Audio codec" error when trying to play anything from Yahoo Music Videos. I am using VistaCodecPack by Shark007.net, which has proved to be the preferred solution for me. I also have QuickTime Source DirectShow Filter
and QuickTime alternative runtimes installed.

I have attached the log files that says something about a "timeout...".

Grateful for any help.

Firewall problem

I got same timeout error on my work pc. When I disabled Symantec firewall all clips on Yahoo music started to work. So don't mess with codecs and concentrate on firewall configuration.

YahooMusicVideos uses an internal proxy just as AppleTrailers. Can you play Apple Trailers? If both don't work it could be a firewall problem.

    the logs look like it:
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 77.238.186.61:1935

I haven't been able to check out the firewall settings yet, because I switched over to another machine with older versions of MP/Online Videos (btw Yahoo Music Videos showed the same problem there). I believe I turned off Windows firewall, but I will have to check again. I can play Apple Trailers (below 720p) without a problem. Could it be firewall settings in my modem/router? But then again, I guess it wouldn't work to watch those vidz on another PC within a browser, or are streams handled differently there?

I have checked this now, Windows Firewall was enabled. Unfortunately turning it off made no difference, which leaves me without a clue.

It could be another problem. I stopped "Symantec Endpoint Protection" service in service panel and then I could play Yahoo videos. Unfortunately Symantec Endpoint Protection management is disabled on my work pc, so I can just switch it on or off.

The problem has to do with firewall settings in my Intertex Surfinbird ADSL router. I was able to play Yahoo videos when I applied the low security setting. However as I don't want that low level of security overall as it opens up most ports, I need help with which particular port settings I need to alter. E.g. rtsp port 554 is open, but do I need to open other ports? My limited firewall knowledge prevents me from configuring this.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Thank you, that's what I needed! Unfortunately I spent the time to find it out through trial and error before I saw you post. I'm a bit surprised I wasn't able to google it up. Wonder how many people besides me that have stumbled with this issue.
