Hi,

I recently installed Mediaportal 1 and was able to get the tv, tv guide, videos, pictures working. i installed a radio plugin that works well but cannot get the Radio section of MP to work which is what I want to do next. I have uploaded a log file for further information. below is a screen shot of I think the problem area from the config file. I cannot for the life of me find a procedure to add a radio channel to this location that works for me. of course, I am entirely unfamiliar with the jargon so need a very clear, makes no assumption procedure to follow which I is asking a lot, I know, ideally, i would just like to download a playlist and install so that the channel list can be populated quickly but again, I cannot find a set of instructions to do this, there is another window below the one below that shows that the radio should turn on in MP.

cAN ANyone point me in the right direction to get the radio work? any help much appreciated! If i can provide further info, please let me know,

best, david

cannot get the Radio section of MP to work
What type of radio are you hoping to get working?

    (1) VHF/FM radio
    (2) DVB-T radio (broadcast with the DVB-T TV signals)
    (3) Internet radio

I use only (2), so cannot help you with (1) or (3). Do you have DVB-T broadcasts in the USA?

    c, thanks for your response.

I guess this is part of the problem, my ignorance. I am in the Boston, MA, USA area so don't know what is best for me,

i think the answer is internet radio which I am guessing is either DVB-IP or web stream. your number 1 is, I believe, over the air so I am not interested in that as don't have an antenna and not sure if DVB-T is available in the states.

how did you set up DVB-T? If I had a procedure for that, I would give it a try,

    thanks again, david

    David,

DVB-T is not applicable for you. DVB-T is the digital terrestrial TV and radio standard used in most of the world outside the USA and Canada. USA and Canada have ATSC instead... but from what I've seen and heard, ATSC is not used for radio broadcasts. In any case, it's moot because you don't have an antenna (...and presumably you don't have a tuner card/stick either).

It's very hard to help you - especially to provide the "clear, makes no assumption procedure" you've asked for - unless you can provide further and more specific information about the type of radio and/or stations that you want to receive.

Did this curiosity about radio come from seeing the radio section/menu/configuration and thinking "ooo, I wonder if I could use this"?
...or have you previously used other programs to receive radio?
...or do you use other appliances to receive radio, and you're hoping you could use MediaPortal too?

Any additional information you can provide about what you're wanting to achieve - no matter how insignificant it may seem to you - could help us to help you...

According to Wikipedia and WKRO's own website, it seems like there are 3 ways to receive WKRO:
    1. By using a tuner to tune in and receive the main/standard AM radio broadcast at 680 kHz.
    2. By using a tuner to tune in and receive the digital HD radio broadcast at 93.7 MHz HD2.
    3. By using your internet connection to receive the provided live stream.
Option 1 is not possible with MediaPortal or any other computer software. As far as I'm aware, there are no AM radio tuner cards or sticks available for computers. I'd guess this is because the electrical environment inside and around computers makes it difficult (if not impossible) to receive coherent AM signals. There's nothing we can do about it.

Option 2 is not possible with MediaPortal or any other computer software. Again, as far as I'm aware, there are no HD radio tuner cards or sticks available for computers. I don't know why this is the case; it's just reality. Again, nothing we can do about it.

It looks like option 3 is the only option for MediaPortal:
    1. Open TV Server Configuration.
    2. Go to the "radio channels" section.
    3. Click "add" (channel).
    4. Enter any name and channel number you like.
    5. Click "add".
    6. Select "web-stream".
    7. In the URL field enter http://107.22.108.201/entercom-wrko...ayer&user-id=85d8277d3c3c5cd9f276d267b59b0a36
    8. Click OK and OK again to save and create the channel.
    9. Close TV Server Configuration.
    10. Open MediaPortal.
    11. Navigate to the radio section.
    12. You should see the channel you created listed there. Click on it to start listening.
    Hope that helps. :)

[edit: To be clear, that URL at step 7 is:
    Code:
    http://107.22.108.201/entercom-wrkoamaac-64?session-id=85d8277d3c3c5cd9f276d267b59b0a36-36666d723163343734666a3639713662&source=v6player&user-id=85d8277d3c3c5cd9f276d267b59b0a36

The above looks great and I am sure it will work when I try it tonight. I was trying a similar process and was closer than I thought to making it work except for one major hurdle. I tried some different URL's but none of them worked.

I looked through the Wikipedia and WKRO's own website as you did to try and find the url that you listed but could not find it. Where specifically did you find the url? I hope your answer will help me find url's for other stations that I want to add.

thanks for your help and patience, David

I had to do some sleuth work.

I hope your answer will help me find url's for other stations that I want to add.
Sorry, I know the above answer won't help you at all. Finding URLs for internet streams isn't really something that can be taught or specified with a set of instructions. URLs generally have to be figured out on a case by case basis.

P.S. You won't be able to record these radio stations; only listen live. Hope that's okay.
