Running the MP beta with 10/20/09 svn on the server. Working fine. Matching client install on my notebook. If I install for viewing TV I can't connect to the server. Installing on client (notebook) for "no tv" everything works fast and correctly.
I've tried installing the MP client on several different machines and it's always the same. Can't connect to the TV server.
All systems are running Win 7. Both 64 bit and 32 bit. The server is running Win 7 64 bit.
I have to run at least the 10/20/09 svn or my Hauppauge tuners aren't seen as atsc.

There has to be a simple setting in the MP server that I've missed.

    Any ideas anyone??
I've installed the 11/14 svn and it's working very well. Except the I still can't access MP Server from any client.
Tried turning off Windows Firewall completely. No difference.
    What am I missing???

    hi!

how about checking the "streamoing port" on the server - is it ok? could be checked under "additional 3rd party check".

    Thanks for the reply, tompa.

3rd party says "port 554 available" and Media Center Services "disabled by policy".
Tried changing the port to 560, no change.
Tried also changing from using the PC server name to IP address "192.168.6.2" instead of "auto", no change.
Tried re-enabling the MMC Services also, no change.
Back to using the PC name, IP "auto" and MMC Services "disabled by policy".
    No luck so far.
Any idea on what else I can try?

Do you have firewalls enabled on your server and/or client?

    My experience:
A while ago I did a security update on my server with connection errors as result.
It was related to settings in the m----soft firewall.
Result: no connection possible from client.

I reverted to a restore point I made just before the patch had been installed.
    Problem solved.

Before anyone asks: my connection is MySQL based (my server is to slow to run microsoft sql)

    I'm using MS SQL.
I've had this issue ever since the fresh install of win 7 professional. Was using Vista 64 and didn't have a problem.
I've tried turning off windows firewall for all private networking, but haven't removed it completely as yet.
I'm going to try that in the morning.
The only difference in the setup of the win 7 64 bit install is that I set up the HomeGroup for networking. I'll try disabling that as well.
    Thanks to all.

I have the exact same problem. TV Server is running on Windows 7 and no clients can connect. It does not matter if the client is on WinXP, Vista or WIndows 7 as i've tried them all. So it's a TV Server problem.

I've also disabled the firewall on both the client and the server as i never use a software firewall.

It is not a router problem as all this is local to the network, hence the router only acts as a standard switch on the network.

Oh, and i can connect locally to the TV Server. It's only clients on other PC's that cannot connect.

    Fact:

    1) There are NO firewall enabled! Not on the server, not on the client and not in the router either!!
    2) Network access on all computers works, both for internet access and local area network work perfectly (network shares etc.)
    3) The streaming port is open and reported open in MP Config.
    4) A client on the same machine as the TV Server can connect and works perfectly.
    5) No client, no matter operating system can connect. MP just hangs at "Loading window plugins" and hangs when you press OK in the MP Config if you have entered the hostname of the TV Server.
    6) The problem is there no matter if i use the hostname (HTPC) or the IP.
    7) All PC's on my network use reserved DCHP IP adresses, so they all always have the same IP.

So im pretty sure this is a MediaPortal problem when running on Windows 7.

EDIT: Can anyone confirm a working setup where the TV Server is running on Windows 7?

Hi guys, I am running the last beta version of Media Portal TV server in a Windows 7 laptop successfully. The client is running also windows 7 but using media portal TV client 1.0.2 in a different machine. The main problem I got is if the server is down or if the wireless network strength is low the client will freeze and finally crash down.

The Firewall is up but ports 3306 (MySQL) and 554 for inbound and outbound for both machines are open. Also I have a Netgear Router if that helps anybody.

If you would like to know something else just PM.

    SERVER:
    Windows 7
    MediaPortal_1.1.0_BETA-1_rev23491
    MySQL Server database

    CLIENT
    Windows 7
    MediaPortal_1.0.2 Stable
