Certain .avi files wont play inside MP (1 Viewer)

Problem:
Some avi'x (Xvid encoded (axxo files)) dont play in mediaportal - they do play outside mediaPortal in VLC player and windows Media player Classic.
When opening the file from Mediaportal (Moving pictures plugin and My Video plugin) the screen will go black for +/1 1 sec and jump back to the video details.
I've already switched back from Vista ultimate to Xp sp3 with a full clean reinstall and the problem persists.


I hope someone can help me out cause Im clueless atm..

Are you using subtitles, if so try turning off autoload vsfilter in haali settings (first option).

Nope no subtitles, I did turn it off however but it had no effect.

Wonder then if it is down to PowerDVD8, when installed this also installs the divx codec, and i wonder if this is trying to take priority over ffdshows xvid setting.

Going to check out whether axxo files play fine using divx codec, can you download and run filmerit (link in signature) just to make sure you have no codec errors, you should also see xvid under the directshow filters tab.

Filmit turned up 0 errors (see screenshot).
It does however show Cyberlink as Divx codec if I'm correct, could this be the issue?

Ok, tried disabling MPC-HC codecs and ffdshow, so forcing divx to play back files, still no problem.

I really do not know why "normal vob sub filter" should show up, unless enabled, either in ffdshow or haali configs or have you got vobsub installed as a seperate thing filter

- VLC uses it's internal codecs only (no directshow codecs are affecting it's playback)
- MPC uses some internal codecs and splitter + directshow codecs
- MP uses only directshow codecs

Check with GSpot Codec Information Appliance if you are missing come directshow codec(s).

Have you enabled any subtitle setting within MP, saying that, if i double click on a video file it opens in WMP fine.

So if yours will not, then thats the place to start, axxo files are DX50, so should easily be supported under windows.

At PD's advice I uninstalled all codecs (incl. Haali etc) and installed Vista codecpack unfortunately the results are the same.

FIXED!

I set Gabest Splitter in the avi settings instead of the microsoft splitter and now everything seems to work, although it works Im still frustrated as I cant figure out why..

Anyway, thanks a bunch once again for the quick replies!
