Hi folks,

I've been using MediaPortal since v1.0 final was released and i have to say i love it. There is one thing i have not been able to figure out and that is how to change the audio track while watching a DivX/XviD movie. I know that pressing 'A' will do that but it doesn't seem to work for divx/xvid files. I have it working just fine for .mkv h264 files. When i play these divx/xvid files with a standalone player (vlc or kmplayer) I can change audio streams without issues. I've also tried to go through the info menu but there is no audio menu option like there is when i watch an mkv file. Is there a post-processing filter i need to enable in order to get this functionality? or some other way to enable it?

Thanks very much for the help.
Keep up the good work mediaportal team! :)

-Dave

Are you using the Haali Media Splitter? If you activate the splitter also for avi files, then you will be able to switch the audio tracks.

You can enable AVI Support in the config of Haali.

I am using haali media splitter. I tried re-installing it in order to enable support for AVI files and it has gotten me farther but still having an issue. Before i was not able to see the 'Audio Language' option in the mediaportal info OSD menu. Now i can see it but when i press down to select the 'audio language' option nothing happens (ie. i can't select this option at all). It is almost like the menu is locked up or something. However i can still exit the osd menu. I've also tried pressing the keyboard shortcut 'A' but nothing happens for this either. The only filters i have enabled in post-processing are DirectVobSub and CoreAVC. I also tried adding Haali media splitter to the post-processing filters but it causes an error when i try to play a video file. If i leave it out of the post processing filters, then i can play all my videos jsut fine, and still be able to switch audio streams on mkv files. It seems only to be an issue on avi files.

Thanks for the suggestion jof. It's got me a little closer. :)

Just need to figure out why the audio change menu/keyboard action has no effect.

    Any ideas?

Is it wise to add the filters to post-processing? That isn't where you choose codecs for use, just for post-processing filters. It might conflict.

I would also recommend trying the stream switcher in FFShow Audio configuration.

    Hi kenwonders,

I've removed the codecs from post-processing filters as i only had them their while trying to troubleshoot this problem. I will ahve to try the stream switcher. When you said 'ffshow', did you mean ffdshow? What if i'm not using ffdshow? I had thought that if i installed this that it would reduce the performance of my video playback? Is this not the case? Will the stream switcher in ffshow allow me to change audio using 'A' hotkey in mediaportal?
    Thanks for the help.

Your setup sounds OK, so do not mess it up too much :)

As far as I know avi container was not designed for multiple audio tracks. But .mkv is! I suggest a workaround: install mkvtoolnix, start mkvmerge, drag-and-drop your .avi to it and save your movie as .mkv. You can even add the subtitle files to get them embedded. The files will be even smaller. The streams will be kept, not recoded, just saved into an another container.

you could also check out your graph with graphstudio. Haali media splitter should be loaded while the .avi is played. This is essential! always check graph, you will see how everything is working.

Thanks for the comments kszabo. Unfortunately i dont want to have to convert an avi to mkv everytime. The fact that kmplayer/vlcplayer can switch audio tracks without issue means there must be some way to get this working in mediaportal. I'll just have to keep trying things i guess.

Anyone else out there have this working? Any other filters that can be used for switching audio tracks on an avi video within mediaportal?

Thanks again for the help everyone. :)
