Not really new here but I have a question about installing MP. Can I specify to have MP run on one drive but store all data (banners, cover art, etc.) on a different drive?

As for the reason, the HTPC I'm building has only a 32GB SSD for the boot drive which is barely enough for Windows 7 and MP both. The more files I add, the larger the MP client becomes and I'm afraid of running out of space. So I've added a 40GB HDD to the system to have plenty of room. Right now, I have only 847 MB free on the SSD.

yes you can. Take a look @ the MediaPortalDirs.xml in your MP install directory (Program Files)

I've got my database & thumbs folder on a separate partition so i don't need to copy over 1GB+ on a new install. ;)

You can also store DB & thumbs/backdrops etc as you want for MP TVSeries, but I've had a quick peek at Moving Picture and I don't see an obvious way to do same here.

Thanks for that. So I guess I can just specify literal paths for these locations and move the original ones there?

MovingPictures dB is stored in '\database' folder, and thumbs go into the '\thumbs\MovingPictures' folder, to that's all included. Just make sure to double check the Advanced Settings and check backdrop & fanart folders, since those settings aren't 'relative'.

Correct. Just double check MovPic Advanced Settings (tab About in config) as stated above.

    More info about it here.
NOTE: As stated in the link about Centralized database, that part isn't officially supported by MP because of the errors it can cause when multiple clients connect to the same SQL dB, but as long as you keep the new file location on the same PC, you should be good.
