Story is:
Had to try out Asus EEE Box as mediacenter - everything but the TV card is there :)
Had an old Hauppauge WinTV USB2 laying around - should be able to do the job.
But it kept on crashing during channel scan in TVserver. Blamed the old TVcard, and bought a brand new Hauppauge HVR900 usb card. Same story, it crashes during channel scan.

Found a thread here about that, followed the advise about downloading this patch:
WindowsXP-KB896626-v2-x86-DAN.exe

But it will not install, as it tells me back that I have a newer version installed. I have XPHome SP3.
So .. it should be soooo easy to install and run the mediaportal, but im only getting more grey hair.

I can't figure out why it keeps on crashing while trying to scan "analog cable" and "analog antenna" but it runs through the scan (finds no channels though) in "dvbt mode"

Please advice.
Log files attached.

    Hi,
Seems like it can't find a encoder (2009-05-13 22:03:54.167125 [14]: analog: AddTvEncoderFilter no encoder devices found), is this a software encoded tuner?

    Regards
    Roy

Hmm, this may also apply to all the others that have the same problem at the moment then ...

Let's say that this is the answer to the crashes - how could I prevent it from happening ? If it is a software encoded tuner (Hauppauge HVR900), and my old one Hauppauge WinTV USB2 also is a software encoded tuner, how can I then get the system to work ?

I have ofc. installed the driver to the HVR900 card and it is shown fine in the TVserver list and in hardware-list in control panel. But have I been overlooking something ? Do I need to install additional software or codecs or something to get going ?

    Please advise ;)

It appears that some tv-cards does only work with software encoding, apparantly because they have no hardware chip to encode the signal .. so I did following mistake at install time:

I did not install any of the crap from the CD that came with the TV card - simply because I'd love a clean installation, so i settled with the driver for the TV card and thought everything was in place ..

But nothing worked, until I actually installed all of the crappy software following the TV-card - and then
I can scan and find the channels - Yahooooooo

    :D
