I use 1 x dual-tuner USB dongle (Kworld 399U, AF9015 chipset) and 1 x single-tuner USB dongle (TwinHan 7047, RTL2831U chipset) with MP - since both have BDA drivers they both work OK.

In my system, the AF9015 chipset dongle performs pretty much faultlessly - the RTL2831U chipset dongle generates occasional picture glitches, so I have that as my lowest-priority tuner in TV-server configuration.

Is is possible given a decent rooftop antenna connected to use one or two of the cheap USB dongle tuners floating around the marketplace with MediaPortal?
    Examples:
Digital USB DVB-T HDTV TV Tuner Recorder Receiver ,133 - eBay TV Cards, PC Cards, Laptop Accessories, Computers. (end time 13-Jun-09 06:23:06 AEST)

    Hi,

I use the TerraTec Cinergy T USB XE which uses BDA drivers and it works fine in MediaPortal for me. I think it's priced around 29.99 euro or even cheaper in some stores. I even use the included small antenna with good results but I have quite short distance to the nearest station.

Probably fine, but with tuners you do get what you pay for. I just built an HTPC for my father-in-law and used 2x cheap tuners in it - an avermedia super 007 and a geniatech. They both work ok for SD TV, but there's a notable difference in quality between them and the hvr-1100 I have in my HTPC when playing HDTV. Both of them have very slow channel-change times, too, which can be a wee bit annoying.

The other card I have in my htpc is a DTV2000h (leadtek), which is ok quality wise, but has slower channel change than the Hauppauge.

Im not saying spend lots of money - I got the two cheapies for about $25 each on ebay, the Leadtek for $35, and the Hauppauge for $35. The Hauppauge is the pick of the bunch by far. In my experience spending the $10 extra made a worthwhile difference....
