--* choppy playback of 720 and 1080 files with EVR enabled in MP Config

--* in mp config under Direct Show Filter Control - Video Renderer Settings
--* and enable EVR

--* if i enable VMR9 (all 3 items ticked and Bilinear Filerting choosen), video files play fine.
--* The issue is with the progress bar at the bottom as it becomes oversized and goes off the screen
--* this happens with skins: streamedMP(VMR9enabled.jpg) and Blue3Wide (VMR9enabled2.jpg)

System specs would help. It looks like you have a strange (very wide) resolution selected. The skin is designed for 16:9.

Re the stuttery playback - see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/1-0-1-svn-builds-313/1080i-material-not-deinterlacing-under-1-0-1-0-a-58486/

Basically, MP (particularly 1.0.1 onwards) is GPU power-hungry - you have a relatively low-powered integrated GPU, and HD video + EVR to a 1920 x 1080 screen is probably more than it can cope with. With a video playing, press 'shift' and '1' together on the keyboard - this should bring up a display of rendering statistics - look at the fps and dropped frame numbers.

ill check that out. I want to mention (but dont want to jinx myself) but 720p and 1080p files seem to play much better after i installed PowerDVD8. The codecs became available in MP Config and i set the HD content to use the PowerDVD codecs. I have EVR enabled. Thank you.

Do you think if i get a dedicated graphics card, that would help out the situation? I was looking at this one: Newegg.com - ASUS EN9400GT/DI/1GD2(LP) GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards but im not sure. Can you please recommend a good card (with HDMI port) for an HTPC (budget would be around $80).

    1920 x 1080 @ 60hz (i think its 60hz, not sure though)

i think i want to go to the Nvidia family. so you recommend a 9500 or above?

My understanding is that the 9400 is a bit borderline, similar to the ati 4550. Andrew H had a good result in the post Tony mentions above when he upgraded to the 9500. Personally, I prefer a quite htpc, so I look for passively cooled cards, and they are getting harder to get now that the performance requirements have increased.

    I run a low-profile 9500GT - an XFX 9500 GT 512MB DDR2 Standard (PV-T95G-YALG) - which is pretty quiet for a fan-cooled card. You can get passively cooled 9500GT cards, but they are full-height.

This Newegg.com - XFX PVT95GZAFG GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards looks like it's the same card fitted with 1GB of ram (but you'll need to add the low-profile bracket kit if you need to put in a low-profile case).

i apologize but what is a low-profile case?

the case i am using now for my HTPC is the ANTEC Fusion. would the 9500 (mentioned by Tony) fit in this case? Would i need to anything special (i.e. low-profile bracket)?
