A lot of different broadcasts make life difficult: 50 Hz, 25 Hz, 23 Hz, interlaced, not interlaced only to name a few.And as I use dvb for my tv connected to a 50 (or 60) Hz beamer output, unfortunately deinterlacing is a necessity.
