Hello Developers, community members and everyone else that might know even the slightest more about it than me!

I need help. I don't know if it is the version I downloaded or if I'm just stupid, but I can't seem to get the latest version to work.

Here is what I need:

- Something better than the WinTV v7 that came with my Hauppauge HVR-3000
- Something that has an interactive display like MediaPortal that can access Radio and TV with the ability to get the Freeview New Zealand EPG.

I don't think I need the TV Server part of the software, but it dosn't seem as if I have a choice. In the setup screenshots it has "Capture Card" or "Configure Capture Card" under the "TV Settings" in the MediaPortal Configuration screen. This does not appear in my installation. I am stuck without it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is there a different version I need to download?

Cheers guys!
David

You always need the TV-Server to watch TV. From you post its unclear on what you installed....here is a few questions so that I know what you did...

    1) Which version of MediaPortal did you download and install?
    2) When you installed MediaPortal, did you select that you will be watching TV?
    3) Do you have a TV-Server start-menu entry under MediaPortal?

In addition to the questions above, please also complete your system-spec detail so that I can see what you have. For more detail on what we need please see this How to start a support or bugreport

    Hello Geov,

    I have installed MediaPortal_1.0.2

I did indeed state I wished to view TV at the beginning of the installation. I'm not sure about all the SQL database stuff though. So I can't comment about that. When MediaPortal asks me to connect to a TV-Server in order to set it up, I can't do anything.

I am running Windows 7 and it seems now the installation crashes upon unpacking. It never ends!

    Hi Draviddavid

MediaPortal is open-source and therefore is for enthusiasts that are willing to put in effort to make it work correctly. You have to follow the rules of the "How to start a support or bugreport" link, and at least answer the questions I asked for anyone to help you. Sorry without the correct information I cant help you!

    Sorry Geov!

I had just woken up when I wrote that responce and a little upset as I had to format my Windows 7 installation again. Once I have everything re-installed and working again I will try MediaPortal and re-read the instructions to see if I can pull anything more out of it.

I will answer your questions when I have the answers, you just happened to ask them at an inconvinient time. I am very willing to experiment and put effort in to getting it working. I'm just not the sharpest knife in the draw when it comes to software.

    Cheers,
    David

Well, one format later and an hours worth of downloads, I managed to get MediaPortal working!

Hurray! It seems for some reason if I install MediaPortal with the "I want to view HD content" option" it will install MediaPortal and the TV server seperatly as if I was setting it up as a master server to serve other TV's and computers on my network. Well, this time I thought I would play dumb and selected "I don't know what HD is" (or something to that effect) and it gave me a much more precise range of options that made more sense than the other questions I was asked if I selected "I want to view HD content"

The selection I was looking for all along was the "MediaPortal and built-in TV-Server" for a single end user, rather than the "MediaPortal and TV-Server (1.0 I think it was) seperate from each other". So instead of being asked what the IP of my computer with the TV-Server on it was I actually found the "Capture card" setting in the configuration under "Television" (which was missing before), wrote up a configuration file for the only Optus satellite that was missing from the hundreds listed (OPTUS D1) and scanned to find all the channels I was looking for!

After playing around with the switch settings (which to my suprise I didn't actually have a switch at all) and the LNB frequencies, everthing seems to be honky dory appart from some weird artifacts on screen (which I think is a reception problem) and the lacking EPG which I have yet to figure out how to download.

    But all in good time!

Thankyou for the support, I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful. And if anyone wants the "tuning file thing" for OPTUS D1 feel free to PM me. And for those that have OPTUS D1 already set up but are getting nothing but encrypted sky channels, simply turn off the 22Khz tone and have the switch frequency on 0 if you don't have one. It is not required in many more cases than not and just seems to cause problems for me.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers,
    David

    Hello,

I'm having issues setting up the TV feature. I was reading the previous post and read about a "Capture Card" message under Television. Well, I don't see that message under Television and I didn't check off "see HD" tv when I set up mediaportal. Could that be the reason why? My hybrid card does register in the TV server configuration, but no channels come up so I've been playing with it for a while now. I set up the hybrid card in a group as is detailed in the manual, but I don't know whether to set up ATSC or analog. I have a cable box that I run into the hybrid "stick" if you will that attaches via usb. I don't have HD programming. I'm gonna try and set up a proper support request as well.

    Thanks
