Compressing .TS files into smaller .TS files (1 Viewer)

After much struggling, I finally have MP working reasonably well as DVR.

But there is a new problem…

The .TS files are so large that

1) they are eating up hard drive space like crazy
2) my home network seems too slow to efficiently play back the files on the client. I get choppy performance.

How can I compress the .TS files into smaller .TS files?

Ideally, I am looking for a plugin or a command line utilty that I can run automatically after each recording is finished. But I would like to keep the .TS extention so that MP can play back the files and still be able to display program info.

Can someone recommend a way to accomplish this?

First off you need a powerful machine or it could take hours to do a conversion.

IMO, you should upgrade your network and increase your HD space first. Compressing a lossy compressed format isn't the right solution.

try handbrake, i use to convert .ts -> .mkv, however i'm sure it supports .ts output. It also has command line options in addition to GUI.

if you want a plugin that allows you to automatically run scripts / compress files post recording then you need to use "for the record" plugin
