Hi @ all

I have a little problem with the comskip launcher. I have made some recordings (all longer then 30 minutes) and tested various constellations for a few hours and I can't get it to work.

I have searched the forum for comskip threads but without success. Actually I have avtivated the comskip launcher in the TV Server configuration with the following options.

When to launch:
Recording Start (i've also tested after recording and waited till recording ended)

What to launch:
Program: C:\comskip\comskip.exe (Comskip is located in C:\comskip)
Parameters: "{0}" ( I guess default ?)

Now my problem:

It seems, that comskip doesn't start at all, because no txt or log files are created in the folder where the recording is located (MP creates a seperate Folder for each Recording).
When I use the Test button in the Comskip Launcher Plugin (i choose a mpg recording manually) it works perfectly, txt and log files appear in the folder of the recording.

I have read much about an comskip.ini file and i also looked into the ini, but i don't have any clue about the options and don't change anything.

I hope somebody could help me to fix my problem because I really like this plugin. Great Job and-81 :D

If some information is missing please let me know it :)

Does anything show up in the TV Server logs??

Maybe try pointing the plugin at something else instead of ComSkip and see if it loads that ... maybe at a batch file that will display the input and pause ...

    Something like:

    @ECHO OFF
    ECHO %1
    PAUSE

But definitely check the logs for me.

    Cheers,

Today I got a new HDD, and I have done a fresh installation of MediaPortal an TV3. I have just set up the comskiplauncher and I will try to do some records tonight and post my results tomorrow... maybe the problem won't show up

It seems that it works now... txt and log files are created :)

    thx for your help

    Regards

I have this issue and there is nothing outstanding in the logs.

I have tried selecting a different program to launch and it doesn't launch that either

I had the same issue on my MP install running on Vista. Turns out I ended up getting those "are you sure you want to run this exe" on my service desktop, resulting in comskip never executing. If you run on Vista, see if you get one of those "service desktop message" alerts (this will only happen when TV Server runs comskip, not when you do the "test"), use that to switch into the service desktop, unselect "always ask for this program" and press OK. Fixed it for me.

The test tool in the comskiplauncher works like a charm, but the actual comskip autorun doesn't start to process the file after the recording has ended.

Is it necessary to have the recording end automatically or should the comskip tool start to run also when a recording is ended manually from the remote?

    G'day,

I was having that problem too. I changed the "TVService" service from running as "System" to run as one of the local admin users. Now when a recording finishes, I can see "comskip.exe" process fire in task manager.

So now all of my recordings are being processed, but the remote client does not seem to recognise that the EDL file exists whenI playback from "recorded tv", although it's fine when I do the same from a local MP client on the TV server. It also uses the EDL file when playing back on the remote client via My Videos (using a share pointing to the recording folder). THink I saw another thread about that one, so I'll go check that out now.

    Cheers,

I have a similar problem, except that the test doesn't seem to do anything either. I haven't seen any txt files.

I've set it up to run after the recording ends (as suggested by Paranoid Delusion). I've not touched the ini file. I set up parameters as above, and tried both with parameter "0" and "{0}" (entered without quotes!) and other parameters (e.g. 2). It's not clear to me if I should enter the brackets or not, and what any of these parameters do.

I did try running ComskipGUI.exe and that worked (txt file created), so it appears that ComSkip can work my on setup. I also originally had the "are you sure you want to run this exe" messages but have unclicked this in Vista; now ComSkip appears to launch - I get a black DOS-type window which flashes briefly. Nothing is shown as running in task manager though. From the logs, I get this:

    2008-10-18 08:00:20.971000 [5]: ComSkipLauncher: Recording ended (D:\My Videos\TV Recordings\Location Location - Real Estate - 2008-10-18.ts on Real Estate), launching program (C:\Program Files\ComSkip\comskip.exe 0) ...
    2008-10-18 08:02:28.723000 [15]: Controller: StopTimeShifting 1

Note that when running with a different parameter (e.g. {2}), I still get the same command line in the log:
    (C:\Program Files\ComSkip\comskip.exe 0)

The only thing I can think about on my system is that ComSkip is under C: Program Files and my TV recordings are under D: My TV Recordings. Its the same physical HDD but partitioned, so different discs.

    Anyone got any advice?

That`s a known problem on MP clients, and probably won`t be added until after 1.0 release because that functionality was never there. If you play the file via My Videos however comskip works.

I also had the problem where comskip wouldn`t run after a recording. I had to mess around with running before and after recording and stopping and starting the service. Eventually got it working but not sure exactly what the problem was.
