Configuration Crash No MediaPortal.xml (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I'm a Newbie to MediaPortal, so much so that I can't get it working on Win7 64bit and half working on Win XP client!
The configuration is crashing trying to load filters. Yes I've run filmerit! and another Codec checker. Does someone have a default mediaportal.xml I'm a part-time programmer So I understand that the configuration creates this xml file, and I want to create it manually. Is this possible? Are there known dodgy codecs?
Obviously if I haven't a mediaPortal.xml I can't run Debug mode or Watchdog etc.

What exactly the crash say?

After it asks what Configuration mode you want (Standard, continue) then it flicks through to filters and Windows reports:
MediaPortal Configuration has stopped working!
